My baby girl will be 2 weeks on Monday and everytime we put her on her back, she turns her head to the side to sleep. Is that ok? She isn't able to roll or anything off her back and the bassinet is completely clear of everything. She is swaddled tightly. But her head us turned, just not near any walls of the bassinet. She literally won't sleep facing up.

Yes that's fine, I think all babies do that. Try it yourself, if you lie flat on your back without a pillow you'd end up turning your head to get comfy as it weighs a lot :)

It's not a problem for them to turn their head, but does she always turn it to the same side? Mine always turned to the left and it caused a flat spot on her head which lead to asymmetric facial features.

She kinda swaps it up. I'll make sure to pay attention that she doesn't favor one side more. Thank you both!

When my LO was not super strong in the neck, she used to always sleep with her head on the left side and it caused me concern, so I was diligent in altering her to the right side.

However, now that she is stronger in the neck, she also rolls onto her tummy from her back to sleep, and she sleeps on both sides of her head, though she still has a preference for the left side. I don't worry about it anymore as she consistently rolls onto her tummy during the day all day.

Just wanted to put that out there as I know it caused me a fair amount of undue distress that was not necessary. To the initial poster, just be aware and you'll be fine :)

mine does that, actually makes me feel better that any spit-up can roll down their cheek, not down their throat ;-) babies are smart little critters!

My lo does this & has done since birth :) he alternates between sides now too but didn't for the first month, he stuck to his right xx

No problems with them turning their heads :)

Wanted to mention that my boy was also born on March 24, and was 7lbs 7oz and 20in long! :haha:
He was born at 7:37pm though!

Aww! By 7:37 I was begging for some food! Lol :)
Hope you two are doing well :)

And thanks all!

Babies are actually supposed to do this. It's an inbuilt instinct which helps to prevent choking etc.
