I've had severe neck pain for about 6 weeks now.
For about 2 days per week I am in agony and can't move my neck and also can't sleep. The rest of the week, it's painful and stiff, but bearable - just!
I went doctors when it first went, and he said it was a muscle in spasm and gave me painkillers. Then last week, someone at work reminded me that we are now in Bupa.
So, I went back to the gp, he referred me to Bupa last Friday, they rang Monday and I had my first physio yesterday. He diagnosed a slipped disc in my neck! He said that my brain is telling my body that I'm not allowed to move my neck in case I do more damage, so all the muscles around it have gone into spasm. He said he's not even going to attempt to manipulate it back in until the muscles are looser. So, I have had physio yesterday, had 12 minutes on a sort-of Tens machine (very painful!), and have to wear a heat-pad constantly! ( in this bloody weather!!)
But, I'm back there Friday, then again next Tuesday, and he's said it'll be a couple of weeks before I'll start noticing a difference. Then he'll look at manipuating the disc back in.
I'm banned from any manual work (not easy in my job, but hey ho), and if there's no improvement soon, he'll sign me off!
I'm so pleased that he's actually given me a diagnosis instead of just saying it's an ache.
