I've had severe neck pain for about 6 weeks now. :hissy:

For about 2 days per week I am in agony and can't move my neck and also can't sleep. The rest of the week, it's painful and stiff, but bearable - just!

I went doctors when it first went, and he said it was a muscle in spasm and gave me painkillers. Then last week, someone at work reminded me that we are now in Bupa.

So, I went back to the gp, he referred me to Bupa last Friday, they rang Monday and I had my first physio yesterday. He diagnosed a slipped disc in my neck! He said that my brain is telling my body that I'm not allowed to move my neck in case I do more damage, so all the muscles around it have gone into spasm. He said he's not even going to attempt to manipulate it back in until the muscles are looser. So, I have had physio yesterday, had 12 minutes on a sort-of Tens machine (very painful!), and have to wear a heat-pad constantly! ( in this bloody weather!!):hissy:

But, I'm back there Friday, then again next Tuesday, and he's said it'll be a couple of weeks before I'll start noticing a difference. Then he'll look at manipuating the disc back in.

I'm banned from any manual work (not easy in my job, but hey ho), and if there's no improvement soon, he'll sign me off!:happydance:

I'm so pleased that he's actually given me a diagnosis instead of just saying it's an ache.:happydance:

Good old BUPA hey!?

Hope you feel better soon hun, and the manipulation works well for you........there is no pain like back pain, you have my sympathies x

Ouch! Stupid GP fobbing you off with just an ache.

Hope the treatment starts to work for you soon!

Good that you are finally getting some treatment for it .. hope it gets better soon.

I had two herniated discs in my lower back from an injury. I spent a ton of money at the chiropractor and it was a waste. He did a million adjustments, did physical therapy, and used the Tens Unit. It got worse. I ended up having back surgery. They completely removed L-4 & L-5 from the lower lombar, removed a piece of my pelvis that had splintered and was sticking in the psiatic nerve! I was in agony too..until they fixed me. Be very careful who you trust to mess with your neck or back. I had a sports medicine specialist do mine..something to consider. Hope you feel better soon!

Bupa is Brill, Andy had his slipped disc operated on there, they don't mess about, he had his first consultation, his MRI, the results and the op all in 2 weeks!!

Very expensive though if you don't have insurance, his bill nearly gave me heart attack!

:hugs:Sorry to hear that. Hope it gets better for you soon!:hugs:

why do dr's fob you off! good job you got yourself to BUPA it sounds really painful, hope it mends itself soon xxx

Not too bad thanks hun. I had another round of physio yesterday, and wearing the heat patches is definitely working. I already feel that I have much more movement, in fact, no-one even noticed at the Meet on Thursday (apart from Imi who asked if I'd hurt myself because the heat patch looks like a large gauze!). For weeks now people have been asking me what I've done as I can't move my head!

Sorry hun i thought you had cut yourself or something .... Soweee :(

BUT it wasn't that noticeable ... only cause i was a step behind ya lol!!

xxx

my dad had a slipped disc, an he needed op to correct it, i remember laughing at him with an electric heat patch on(know the fleecy things all nans have) he was off work for ages tho!! cant be comfy at all hun!!

I'm at home ill.

I had a physio appointment yesterday and he put me in traction. The wierdest feeling! I felt a little light-headed when I got up, but not too bad. Until the drive home......

I had to stop the car haflway back to work and threw up!

By the time I got back I felt pissed! I rang the physio at Bupa and he said it wasn't a normal reaction and to go home and sleep it off. So I did. And no better today. I can't walk in a straight line and the rooms spinning constantly! Luckily, I've managed to get Charlie to nursery because i couldn't have looked after him today.

I've got another appointment tomorrow, so I'm hoping things will get better after!

Aw shit hun that sounds like a horrid side effect
Hope it eases for you soon
xx

Hope you feel better soon hun.

I slipped a disc in my lower back some years ago and had to go for physio. It takes time, but it will get better. Just take it easy :hugs:

Been back to physio today and he's not going to touch me again until he can figure out whats caused the vertigo. So, he's referred me to a Rheumatology Consultant and I have to have a scan on my neck. That's on Wednesday at 4.30pm and I can't work till after it's sorted, so every cloud has a silver lining!:happydance:

I've been so stressed and busy at work that I'm beginning to wonder if it's affecting our ttc, so maybe this will help me relax more. I'm at the gp's tomorrow to see if he can give me some pills for the vertigo and get my sick note.

Down side is I can't drive till it's sorted - oh, the car's in the garage with no head gasket, forgot that !!!

hope ur scan goes ok hun! how u feelin :hugs:
