ive just started LO on SMA staydown for her reflux but where u have to make it with chilled water it doesnt seem to dissolve the powder and it seems to be stopping the milk coming through the teet anyone else have this problem? poor LO just isnt gettin any milk where i have to keep unblocking the teet she isnt happy with me :(

Realy stupid question time, so im sorry, but what is SMA Stay down? ov never herd of it. Am I right in thinking that its a formula to help the milk stay down lol? only reason I Ask is that my LO has terrible reflux and any help I can give him would be great.

I've heard you should use bigger teats hun, we tried this with Jayden when he was younger as he kept bringing back his feeds but in the end we changed to Hipp milk which helped. xx

Were you recommended this milk? We've been trying Nutrimigen, which was helping, but isn't any more.......

fairy3853 - its for babies with a reflux you can buy it in most supermarkets and i think you can get it on precription too although im not sure, it works by thickening when its in the stomach to stop it coming back up, so far its worked as gaviscon with normal SMA didnt work at all

floofymad - the doctor told me to try it, he first precribed her gaviscon which worked for about a week, so he said to try this milk for two weeks and report back to him on how she's been.

I will try find some bigger teets for my bottles, hopefully i can find some!! i have noticed that if i dont warm up the bottle then it seems to flow better so i may just start giving LO her bottles at room temp but i dont think she's keen lol x

Variflow teats might help hun, its a slit rather than holes and i can't explain it well but you can match the diff numbers up to the nose to give a slower or quicker milk flow  gaviscon is clogging doms size 3's too,but his variflows on 1 are just too quick for him...cant win!!!!!!!

This stuff was amazing for my son.. Do you make sure you roll it in your hands rather than shake? Shake will block the teat, you'll also need at least one size up as its thicker. Hth!

hi hun i had same problem down in poole, its the hard water

make the feed up an hour before you give it (easier said than done i know) this helps, bigger teats do naff all just made DD choke

also call SMA and complain i done this and was told they had never heard of it, yet other mums in the area were also finding it, the more people complain they might do something about it

Anyone know if SMA Staydown bottles can be made in advance of feed rather than on demand. I know it says it is to be used by 2 hours but I was thinking of when we go out for the day to have the bottles prepared in advance?? We are only on day one with our 6 week old with terrible reflux after the Gaviscon failed for her so fingers crossed,

I used SMA Staydown for my LO. The water doesn't even need to be chilled (just cool) if you mix with a weaning spoon. This way it never gets any lumps. I just went up one teat size. When mixed properly it should come out like normal milk. I even warmed my LO's up a bit.

As for making in advance i never did. Formula is supposed to be made up with boiling water and didn't want to make it with cool water and then give it chance for bacteria to multiply. Don't know if that is the case but i just chose not to.

xx

SMA staydown worked a treat for my little boy at 4 weeks onwards:thumbup:

Safest way to mix a bottle when out is to put your measured formula powder in one of those bottle storage tubs, take cold previously boiled water measured in the bottle then mix the two together when required, roll in your hands DON'T SHAKE AS YOU GET LUMPS! Then heat in a jug of hot water:thumbup:

Note: I found milk would dry up in the teat hole so rinse with soapy water to
dislodge it, rub the end of the teat between your thumb and finger, then push
water through the teat with the end of your finger to ensure it's unblocked!
