Hi girls

In the last few weeks my little girl has been bringing up her feeds quite a bit, she seems to have a reflux problem, not major but enough to want to perhaps change her milk. Has anyone used SMA staydown, what do you think of it? Easy to prepare, did you warm it? I dont need it for night feeds as she sleeps through. She is 12 weeks. Thanks girls and Merry Xmas xx

We have just switched to it after gaviscon stopped working. LO is much more settled on it and keeps down nearly all of his feeds now, we did have a few issues with constipation for the first week but just gave him a couple of ounces of cooled boiled water for a few days while adjusted to it. You do have to add the formula to chilled boiled water and roll the bottle to mix rather than shake which took a bit of getting used to - I then just heat the bottle up to room temp. Point to note though its the heat that makes the thickening agent work so don't heat it too much, you might have to go up a teat size as well because it's a little bit thicker. There's a really good video on the sma website which shows the best way to mix it. Hope that helps!

i changed this but lo could not get rid of constipation and we tried the boiled water which is a shame because he was more settled on this apart from the constipation, in regards to the teats, i did have issues but sterilised a fork and made the hole slightly wider and made sure to squeeze any milk out of the teat before giving it to lo

we have been using it for months now, our LO is almost 7mths old.
OH refuses to treat her reflux with meds like gaviscon (which just thickens milk anyway when you can get staydown on prescription too).
in the early days she was still sick, but, the sick was old milk rather than acidic vomit which stained her clothes, made her smell and her neck sore.
she was so bad I would have to change her 6 times a day and usually 2-3 baths per day.
the Staydown can be a faff I would imagine for a night feeder or a newborn but we have adjusted ok.
I phoned sma about preparing it, they say fridge cold water to mix the powder and leave at room temp for up to 2hrs before a feed.
LO likes her milk on the warmer side of warm so I have 6oz of water, 8 scoops of feed, roll and stand. Then, just before feed is about to be given add 2 oz of boiling water and roll again - perfect temp and it flows through the teat no problem.
the issues of blockage only arise when mixing the powder into water which isn't cold enough initially.
worked really well for us.
now at 7mths she can go days without being sick, I thought the reflux had gone as we had started weaning just before 6mths but it is still there, we couldn't get her prescription (due to snow and no local shops sell it) so we put her on normal sma and it came back.
x
