My son is 3 years and 3 months old and he is 83cm tall. Have just got back from the doctors and whilst I was there I asked about his height. I only really did this as a lot of friends and family always comment in how small he is. The doctor was great and took his height and weigh. But has said that she will refer him, as he isn't even on the bottom line anymore. Has anyone else been through this??? Would be greatful for any advice

How tall are other family members? It could just be genetics. Most likely it's nothing to worry about and the referral will put your mind at ease x

Has he always been small ??

Did he have a 2 year check ???
As he has been growin but always been small it isnt a worry as such..
Is his weight ok..

My lo is small height and is 18th percentile but shes 95cm..

That is very tiny, that's about the 50th centile for a 19 month old boy. Has he always been tiny? I was a tiny toddler, I only ended up 4'11"ish, but I was never off the bottom of the charts I don't think. Maybe around the 1st centile.

That must be very worrying and I wish you the best of luck.

Edit: I see you had a similar thread when he was 17 months. Looks like he was pretty small then too, maybe he's just meant to be small? I remember commenting on that thread.

I also don't think that being short parents means that a child off the bottom of the charts is necessarily normal or to be expected, I'm 148.5cm (about 4'11") and my OH is 168cm (about 5'6"), we come from short parents ourselves. Thomas is on the 50th centile for height and Sophies just above the 25th.

My LO is tiny - Hahaha. >< He's in 18-24 month trousers (and they still fall off his waist at times). BUT - I am 5ft3. x

I would be curious to know what they say with you meet with someone about it. My daughter has always been small (seriously, when she was like 3 months old, people used to still comment, "Oh, she must have been born premature!" but she wasn't and she was 6lbs 9oz at birth, which is small, but not too small!). She was around the 9th centile at birth, went up as high as 50th around 9 months (which is more in line with her weight, which is around 65th), and then at 2 years, was back down on the 9th. The HV wasn't too concerned since she's otherwise doing great and healthy, but I have always wondered if I should be more concerned about it. She eats well. She has never been one of those kids who totally clears their plate every single time (she has a friend the same age who will literally eat every single thing you put in front of her! She's also like 6 inches taller and in like 4 year old clothes!), but she eats toddler sized portions of healthy, whole foods and almost no treats or junk food except on special occasions. But she's just small. She wears 18-24 month clothes and she's 2 years 9 months. She still fits into her coat from last winter which is 12-18 months! I assume maybe she's just small and will spring up, but her dad and I are both pretty tall (5'9 for me and 6'5 for him), so it seems odd because I guess I thought she'd be tall because we were both always the tallest people in our class growing up. So it's weird to have produced a kid who is short. Now she's not falling off the chart, but I always wonder if she could? Would be interested to know what they have to say when you see someone for a referral.

Has he dropped off his curve or is he following his own line? Like my doctor says, someone has to be in the lower percentiles or even below, but as long as they are following their own curve properly, no need to worry. (My daughter has hovered between 2nd and 15th percentile since birth and no cause for concern).

If there is a definite cause for concern, do check for allergies. My friend's daughter has just been diagnosed with celiac disease (severe gluten intolerance). She didn't show any signs of being unwell, just was really small so they started investigating.

Didn't want to read and run but I have the opposite issue, My son was 3 at the end of September and hes 102cm, a size 10.5 feet and 4-5 clothes. He is being assessed for autism and has limited vocabulary so I won't even get into the comments I have had about him, especially if he has been in his stroller one day.

Please keep us updated and I hope it is just genetics!

My son is also on the smaller side and he is 3 years old as of a few weeks ago. My husband and I are both a little above average in height so I don't know why he is so small. does anyone know when their next growth spurt is? People always think he is 2 and comments about how he talks so well.
