Hi All,

My hubby and I are expecting our first child in October.

This Friday we are having our ultrasound appointment and we going to find out the gender (if the baby cooperates with us). But we are going to ask the specialist to write down the result in an envelope so we can take it to the bakery.

We are planning to do a gender cake reveal with both our parents and close friends.

The problem is that my hubby doesn't care too much for a "party" so he's only inviting his parents. Me on the other hand, I'm inviting my parents, and 4 of my best friends (and they are all bringing their husbands, fiances, bfs etc).

We aren't really making this a "party", we're just gonna have people over so we can cut the cake and find out what we're having.

The thing is, is that the friends I'm inviting don't live nearby so I'd feel bad to make them drive over to our house just to cut cake, find out what it is, and then leave.

Not sure what to do. I want to do more like a pot luck but I don't want to turn it into a huge party which I'm afraid of doing. I'm already thinking of party decorations and I think it may be stretching it.

Have any of you done a small gender reveal gathering and what did you do? How did you keep it small and fun without boring the guests? I know it's not about the guests, it should only be about my hubby, me and the baby but I sometimes have this habit of trying to please everyone.. I just don't want people being bored and the gathering being awkward after the cake is cut. I already imagine the "gathering/party" taking like less than 5 minutes once the cake is cut.

Please help? Any ideas?

I'm having the same thing. Very low-key, just family and bffs. I was thinking the opposite tho.. that if it is all about me and the baby, my guests might get bored. We have a lot of wine, so it's more of a friends gathering with good food and drinks. Think they will be happy enough with that :) If it's your bffs, I'm sure they're just there to share the excitement of finding out with you, don't worry!

I can't take credit for this amazing creativity as my friend did it but I loved the idea! They had the scan and asked the sonographer to write the gender in an envelope and seal it sit they didn't know. They then went to the balloon shop and gave them the envelope and asked them to put a blown up balloon into a box sealed. So they still didn't know. They had everyone waiting at home and played games like guess the gender etc. then their children (they have two and are expecting twins) opened the boxes and our flew the balloons showing they were having two girls so pink balloons. Such a fab idea and fun for everyone
