Just heard/read about this new acronym, aparently SMOG means smug mothers of girls and I read Victoria Beckham was referrerd to as one.

what's everyone's thoughts on this? I don't understand why having a girl would make you smug as opposed to having a boy....

x

i had to google her and smug. maybe because she's famous? automatic target to anything/everything

Media is always wanting to have a neat new acronym to label people with, and 'smob' doesnt' sound good. Seems silly to me. Posh seemed smug well before she had any children :P

No idea. Although I do read some posts and hear the way some people talk like having a boy is a 2nd prize! Drives me nuts of course! Maybe that's what they mean! Stupid thing to say though!

Maybe they think all mothers are self obsessed superficial bitches who spend all their time in salons getting extensions and fake tan. (before I get ribbed for that I'm not against it, I just mean in a stereotypical way). I guess people think women want a girlie little mini me which obviously wouldn't work for a boy.

Personally I'm having a girl and won't be forcing anything like that on her, I'd of been just as pleased to have a boy.

Yeah i'd say alot of ppl want a girl for the fashion factor, dressing them up, doing their hair ect, look at katie holmes, she's like a smug mother, her wee girl wearing high heels ect.

I am super thrilled to be having a little boy. A little girl would have delighted me just as much. If my second (and probably last) is also a little boy, I'll still be thrilled. I guess I just figure I will get the children I'm meant to have. I'm not fussed about what kind of bits they have.

yeah but isn't that the point? a little girl is fun for mom as a little boy is fun for dad
yeah it's fun regardless if you have a boy or a girl too much nit picking

hmm, I was thrilled I'm having a boy. I guess because I "knew" it was a boy from the day I got a positive test I bet I would of been just as thrilled to have a girl.

each has their high and low points, each would be a joy and blessing to have.

When I was pregnant with my son I was desparate for a baby boy! I don't no why I felt this way I just did an Probably would of cried of they had told me I was having a girl (can't help the way u feel) so it's total rubbish that women want girls men want boys, this time I was just happy with whatever I got as I'd already had my little man so was pleased either way xx

I wanted a girl till I had my son. Now the thought of a girl scares me.

I totally agree. I am having my second boy and I am so excited!! Although there have been several people that, after I tell them I am having another boy, they say something like "you need a girl" or they just give me a face like i should be disappointed or something. I am on top of the world excited to be having another boy.

In many cultures it would certainly be the opposite....we'd be much more 'fortunate' to be having boys to help take care of our families, be able to work, etc.

And then of course if we were royalty or something it would be preferable in some people's eyes to have a boy to carry on the name or take the throne or something (or maybe I've watched too many movies )

I'm very happy to be having a boy, though I always pictured myself with a girl first for some reason.

I am SO happy to only have boys. I was hoping for only sons!! I would hate to handle a girl to be honest. So what does that make me? Smob I suppose...

Haha this made me laugh!

The media assumes everyone is as full of crap as they are. Personally I prefer boys! I am having a girl but she isn't going to be some kind of mini-me. I would prefer her to love trucks, science & running around like her brother! :happydance:

is Posh a smog or is she just pleased to have a little girl to bond with after 3 boys who are obviously going to be trying to follow in daddys footsteps and be football mad?

Maybe she doesnt want a mini me as such but someone she can feel just as close to and do girlie things mother and daughters tend to do more than mothers and sons.

I have both girls and boys, twins aged almost 16, a girl and a boy and I am far closer to my daughter than my son. Through no doing its just the way they are. He goes racing etc with his dad and she does dance and drama and shopping with me.

Im having a girl this time too but it wouldnt have bothered me either way. Once they hit their teens they are all just as horrid anyway lol

I presume it's cas she has boys and then got the girl (she apparently sooo wanted) so she is feeling happy, smug? about having a girl at long last?
