I'd never let anyone light up in front of my child and if I was in someones house who smoked I would take her out and tell them why, but what happens outside? I'm finding this one difficult and BBQs ect when people smoke, obviously you can't tell them not to smoke, what do you do? Has this happened to you, the couple of times it has I've just moved the baby without anyone noticing....

I just move him away frm the smoke. In open spaces I dont think it affects them if they'r not close to the smoker.

i dont have my children near smokers and heaven help anyone with a ciggy in their hand dare they apporach my children they will get an earful , DH has asthma and all the family have hayfeverand i do not want people blowing smoke in the faces of my children, thankfully the few friends we have who smoke take it well away from the boys and stay away from them for about 30 min after smoking as well and are happy respect that i dont want them holding the boys right after smoking

I just move her away from the smoke...it really bothers me too but there isn't anything I can say if it's outside! To be honest I prefer people who smoke wash their hands before even touching her! I know it's a little paranoid but....unfortunately nothing we can really do especially if it's not at home!

I'm the same!

Thats the thing, I felt really awkward when an old lady lit up while we were in the street, not right over the baby but she was standing close to the pram. I just said we had to get on, but i can see this happening rather a lot this summer....:(

I personally hate smoking and it annoys me when I see people smoking around babies. I won't let anyone smoke around my baby either. It's difficult though, as you said, in some situations, like BBQ's where people are smoking. I would just move the baby as far away as possible as the smokers, and if it were still too close, Id leave the house/garden where they were smoking. If someone came up to myself and my baby while smoking, I would explain to them that I dont want smoke anywhere near my baby and walk away. Im not going to be polite and considerate of their feelings if they arent considerate of my baby's health. It would be nice if people realised how dangerous smoking is around babies/children and would not light up out of consideration but sadly this isnt always the case...

i smoke, and always outside away from LO i wear jacket outside that i take off when i come in and go wash my hands straight away,
i must admit i will smoke outside if hes there, but not right next to me, if hes in pram OH will push and i will walk at least couple of meters behind them!
if we are in garden at a bbq etc and people are smoking either OH will take him inside or to the other side of garden whatever, in my mums garden we smoke at bottom of the garden were jess never goes,
i try make sure he doesnt breathe in any of my smoke but tbf were ever you go be it towncenter park whatever chances are someone smoking is gunna walk past your pram.. so what can we do! x

being a ex smoker id never light up near a child, i went to see my ohs cousins baby who was 2 weeks old, oh, his cousin and his gf all went out for a smoke but i didnt feel comfortable doing that, so it really gets on my nerves when ppl smoke around zane so i just walk away

espeicaly at bus stops, they arent even allowed to smoke there anymore but still do the idiots.

does annoy me if im at a bus stop or bench and someone will be there staring in the pram with fag in hand, i have asked people to move away in the past or commented loudly how they are stood next to a baby! personally if it was me and there are babys i wont smoke right next to them x

I was at toddlers the other day and after we were sitting on the step and one of the grans, actually two of the lit up....I was the WTF?? This is toddlers :(
Lucky it was the end of it and we could get up and go....

I knw how u feel, some ppl r ignorant. I went to a birthday party for a 1 yr old kid. It was in a small flat. There were 3 babies age between 1-3 mnths old. & many toddlers. After they were done with the food, almost all of the ladies there lit up their cigarettes as if there were no babies or kids around. I was frustrated but just excused to leave. They were surprised when I told them that I was leaving because of the smoke. A lady told me he should get used to it for his immunity!

my god:dohh:

Urghhh I hate people smoking around me let alone Jacob. Especially people standing next to us in town. I usually cough very loudly, tell them I do not wish to get cancer and move us away very quickly. I am a bit rude about it but it's disgusting!

oh I wouldnt have been if it was in a house, but because it was outside I didnt feel I could upset anyone.....Maybe i should be more upfront  lol

TBH when it is outside, it really doesn't bother me. I really don't think a once a month grandparent smoking outside in the same 10ft is going to cause a problem. I have smoking-triggered asthma (grew up in a cigarette home, never touched it myself) and being around a cigarette outside on a patio or whatever once in a while is no big deal to me... I don't really agree with treating people like a leper.. I would just politely move away...

I do know what you mean; it is less of an issue I suppose if it's outside, but I still just think that anyone who smokes anywhere near a baby, whether it is indoors or outside is just inconsiderate, and Id rather make them aware that It was due to their smoking that I was moving the baby, than be polite (moving the baby subtly) and risk them lighting up again near my baby because they are unaware that I am offended (if that makes sense). If they know I don't want smoke near my baby they may not light up so eagerly near her again. :) x
