smoking around children (outside)

I will not allow anyone to smoke anywhere near my LO. None of my family smoke but my sister does go places where other poeple do and comes home with clothes smelling of fags. I make her take the smelly ones off and she usually washes her hair too. God help anyone who dares light up over my LO. I think it's disgusting people smoke around there LOs. There was one lady outside a shop the other day smoking and leaning over a little baby in a pram whist doing so. I walked past saying rather loudly how disgusting i thought it was. Usually i would have walked well away froom them but because they were right outside the shop i wanted to go to i couldnt :growlmad:
I think its vile. End of really. Anyone who smokes near there kids makes me so mad. People dont realise second hand smoke is more deadly so even if you smoke far away from your kids its still going to get them.
I think it should be classed as child abuse, its hurting them, just not in a blatant way.
:growlmad:

Tbh hun, there isn't much you can do. You can't keep them away from this stuff forever xx

I hate being around people when they are smoking and I will walk away. If I was walking down the street and I had to walk by someone smoking I always held my breath and now I blow on Jacobs face to get him to hold his breath and I almost run. My neighbours smoke and even though they aren't very close I can still smell it and if I can smell it I take LO inside. I think most people would move away to smoke if you politely asked them to. Hopefully.

I just move her away from the smoke...it really bothers me too but there isn't anything I can say if it's outside! To be honest I prefer people who smoke wash their hands before even touching her! I know it's a little paranoid but....unfortunately nothing we can really do especially if it's not at home!

I'm the same!

Me 3!

I always try and make sure all my family who smokes wash their hands and wear a jacket of some sort while smoking while my LO is around them. As nicotine can linger on hands and clothes and LO can absorb it though their skin according to my OH's stopping smoking councilor.

If im there first I will tell them to go away weither i know them or not, if they were there first then its just silly to go near someone smoking.
If your at a pub garden or bbq its fairly easy to keep them away from smokers but if your out walking down the road then there realy isnt much you can do about it, you cant protect them from every little chemical in life, id just walk past the person quickly but would never make a show about couthing and waving my hand around as I walked past :)
I am a smoker and never smoke anywhere near my baby or even in the house, I wont even let him see me through the window if hes in the car and im standing outside.
Most in my family smoke and they all do the same thing, outside and no where near him.
Most dont even smoke while hes there even my nanna who is very old school and set in her ways (I originaly thought I may have a problem there) wont even dream of lighting up when hes round.

I forgot to say if someone leaned over and peered into his pram while having a fag in thier hand they had better be prepared to have thier head chomped on :)

I keep Emma as far away from smokers as possible. But at the same time, you can't keep it away completely when you have family that smokes. My SIL for example. She smokes but I can't take away her privileges when it comes to holding my daughter. We live far away so I'm only home for a few weeks at a time usually and it's just not fair to DD or my SIL to keep them away from each other. I go over and visit even though their house has the faint smell of smoke in it. I never stay long and when I leave, I give both DD and I a bath and get both of us into clean clothes. I think smoking is vile as well but I have no right to judge if someone else wants to hurt their body that is their own thing. I hurt mine with too many sweets. :haha: It's a much better tasting killer.

They have shown that cancer causing agents can be left in the residue on hands, clothing, hair of smokers so that's a good way to be!

yup even if someone smokes outside the child inside will still be taking in the second hand smoke more from the persons clothes but like the above person said also hands.

thats why ive banned my oh even smoking when he comes home from work as i dont want my son near him when hes been smoking, even if hes outside its still just as bad as him blowing the smoke in my sons face (to me anyway)

I do the whole talking to baby to get my point across thing. "come on lets move away from the nasty smoke so you don't start coughing."

That's exactly what Id do!

I i am outside and can smell smoke i will move Zach away i think its outside so people are entitled to smoke, most people i know wouldn't bring a cigarette near Zach anyway! I am a social smoker so only smoke if i go out and have a drink but i wouldn't stand anywhere near a child and smoke and can't stand it when i see people with a child in one arm and a cigarette in the other!
