Smoking..

I honestly found the best way to do it was to go cold turkey, i've tried the cutting down but it just prolongs it and doesnt make it any easier to give up - eventually everyones got to go cold turkey.. The first three days are the worse but after that its not so bad!! xx

the only tip i can give u is to think about ur baby, he/she doesnt want to smoke and it can cause so many problems for ur lo down the line.
i also quit cold turkey, in my opinion cutting down never works.

and replace a fag with chocolate hahaha

i smoked through my 1st pregnancy to be honest was very young and didnt know better my daughter is fine and healthy luckily... i gave up immediately with my son cold turkey the second i got my BFP just couldnt/didnt want to smoke for his sake i then started again after having him and this pregnancy have found it very difficult to stop, however after 2 weeks of struggling still smoking/trying to cut down at 6+6 i decided that was it last fag and you know what it was. its now been 17 days :)

one thing that helped me was imagining my baby in there with smoke coming out of him swirling all round him, you know like those stop smoking ads where the children are breathing out smoke?? it worked for me i couldnt bear the thought of doing that to my baby... also midwife told me the placentas of smokers have a layer of slimy gray filth covering them imagine your baby's lifeline being compromised like that, for me these mental images helped me a lot.

good luck to everyone trying to quit, totally agree with comments above noone should be lecturing and trying to bully the people that have been honest enough to say i want to quit help me out, everyone is entitled to an opinion but noone has asked for a pat on the back for still smoking they are asking for help and support to quit which lets be honest they wouldnt be doing if they werent aware of the risks of smoking.

hope you all manage to get through the quitting process i'd say cold turkey is the only way no its not easy but it only takes 2 or 3 days to get through the worst of it and trust me its well worth it :)

I have been munching mini mars bars every time I feel like a ciggie!!! Maybe not such a good idea, lol x
Should maybe have an apple or something but not the same x
:dust:

To the OP - I wish you all the best with quitting. Personally, I don't think you're a bad person and I hope you can find some support elswhere, because obviously this isn't the right place for it.

I did I post like this when I was a few weeks pregnant, I'd managed to cut down to two!
I just couldn't kick the last two.. But all the ladies on here were saying nice positive things to me.. And I then thought there and then that I had a little baby inside me, that would suffer if I didn't stop. I stopped there and then that day and haven't touched one since. It was hard - but every time I thought about touching one I thought about my baby.. And just that alone got me through it! Good luck :)

I can see both sides. People should be commended for cutting down, but perhaps positive comments don't suit everyone. Maybe some of the facts that have been presented here have given some smokers the shock they need to cut out that last cigarette or two.

And not just the smokers who've been posting on this thread so far - who's to say someone won't come across this thread in a couple of months when googling about pregnancy and smoking? Some of the harsher comments could make them think twice, when the positive comments and encouragement haven't worked.

I do agree Whoops!! I have not had a ciggie for 3 days and like I said earlier have been munching mini mars bars instead !
I am now sitting eating a sliced up apple, nibbling away as it keeps my hands busy.
I agree with what you said about shock tactics! When you read it is FACT that smoking increases miscarrage then you do start to think "what am i doing?!!" It is very hard but totally worth doing. What if something did happen to my baby? I would forever blame myself x
Smoking whilst preggers is bad, we do all know this but ladies it is very hard but we need to look after our wee babies and keep up the good work of cutting down and stopping!!
Come on ladies, WE CAN DO IT x
Good luck everyone

Good for you! It does get easier - the few times I've given up smoking before, the first few days were always the worst!

My mum advised me to take up knitting in the evenings to keep my hands busy! :D

This time of night is hard for me, during the day it's not too bad as I am busy with my son, housework etc but night time when you are relaxing etc it is hard. You last time I was preggers I done a big cross stitch picture of winnie the poo which I still have in a frame! It took pride of place in my son's nursery when he was born!! My hubby smokes but he has cut down too as he doesn't smoke around me anymore which is also good. He works mostly evenings so there is never ciggies in the house at night which obviously helps.
My mum is a midwife and obviously she is against smoking during pregnancy. She advised me to buy grapes and put them in the freezer so if you fancy a ciggie just have a wee frozen grape instead x

Oh frozen grapes what a great idea! For some reason I've been dying for something icey cold.. frozen grapes might do the trick ^.^

Or get some nice fruit juice and make your own ice lollies - I find they also help with the MS :D

I love smoking. But i quit cold turkey with my last pregnancy and with this one.

Yeah frozen fruit juice ice lollies are good too, anything that takes a while to eat and isn't too fattening, lol x i was muching mini mars bars like they were going out of fashion but need to sort it out, even hubby said, "your fairly getting through those mars bars" lol x

I love it too, I won't lie, I really miss it!! Really really!! I have a "baby fund" money pot in my kitchen and have been putting £5 in here and there when I would usually buy ciggies and hopefully I will have loads of money to go buy the baby lots of lovely things x x :crib:

For the ladies reading this who are too scared to own up to being a smoker now on here becuse of all the negative comments, give the Allen Carr book a go. It was a real eye opener for me as it really helps you think in a different way. I have tried patches inhailors, gum, mints, you name it, and the book acctually worked!!

You dont smoke for the reasons you shouldnt smoke, posting loads of nasty things will actualy make smokers smoke more, you feel bad about yourself so you go and have a fag to make yourself feel better. If it was as easy as knowing it was bad for you and stopping, no one would smoke, pregnant or not.

Even if you have convinced yourself that its too hard to give up, and you are just going to cut down please give the book or DVD a go. Its only a book it wont hurt honest!

That is a really good idea. My the time bubs is born that jar will be full! I am a smoker, i have cut down to 4 a day which my doc said is brilliant as i was on 20 a day! I intend to stop completely so i'm going on the stop smoking course offered my my local nhs trust. Good Luck to everyone trying to quit, it is so hard but worth it xx
