My toddler had an appointment at the doctors office and we discussed that she's still not talking. I explained that she used to say mama and no but all of a sudden stopped. I also told him that she doesn't seem to understand most commands except come here and let's go bye bye. We also discussed her temper tantrums. He seemed pretty concerned and said we needed to be aggressive about the situation. He put in a referral for her to have her hearing checked and another referral for autism assessment. I'm also on the waiting list for a speech and language pathologist to call me and set up an appointment. I'm freaking out. Everything I Google has me worried. Anyone been through something similar?

How old iw your daughter? Try not to worry too much I know easier said than done but it's good that they're being so proactive now. There will most likely be nothing 'wrong' so don't worry.
My 18 month old pretty much doesn't say anything at all. I know they worry a bit when they regress in speech so maybe that's why they're being thorough. Im also worrying wbout my daughters speech, she's very behind compared to friends her age. However she is exceeding everywhere else x

Agree - try not to worry. If I've got your date right by your signature your daughter is only around 20 months or so? That still quite young. Is she teething? Feverish? Not sleeping well? Terrible twos? Any of those could play into what you describe. Im sure the physician is just being proactive and covering all the bases. Stay off of doctor Google - it just makes everything seem like the end of the world! :hugs:

It's good your getting a referral as it's best to be proactive about these things, but also know that it's totally still normal to not talk much or at all at that age. My husband didn't say any words or walk until he was 2.5. He did need some speech therapy prior to reaching school age, but he caught up just fine. He's now a perfectly healthy successful university-educated entrepreneur. Sometimes these things do happen. It doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong, but good to get it checked out and be proactive.

Just a possibility when my friend had her second baby her son was 21mths, he went from saying momma, daddy, no, yes, and listening well to completely not talking and mot listening well after the baby was born. All test came back normal, and they marked it up to his coping with the new baby. And it did work out in the end as he caught up. Not sure when her speech regression started but I thought id at least share the possibility. I hope all the tests come out okay.

She's 20 months. I've been working with her everyday reading books and pointing things out. I've started taking her on walks without the stroller just her and I and pointing things out to her. Just talking to her. I just feel so bad and wonder could I be doing more? I know it's good she's getting a referral and all but I'm just so stressed over it. The waiting is horrible.
