I am soooo worried. I went in for my 19th week scan & i find out that i have to do a Congenital Anamaly (detailed ultrasound) to proove negative for down syndrome.

I have a daughter who is 16 months old & i had her at age 30. She is beautiful.. Now I am 32 expecting our second baby. I am defi old to be pregnant & overweight too!

Basically are my factors are impacting the test more than the baby??

My NT scan was perfect (.289cms) now i am soo worried when our doctors tell about things that we are not use to hearing everyday.

Please HELP! What are my chances?? I have lost sleep, hunger & peace of mind.

I know they say that over 35 your risk of downs increases, but I'm 23 and had the nt scan and blood test, and my results came back as high risk, 1 in 21 and I had to have a cvs to find out for certain. Luckily everything was ok. I think they're just doing it to rule it out, try not to worry to much, your nt scan was good, so try to stay calm xx

I'm not 100% in the same boat but here is my story....

Me 22 and hubby 24 (3rd baby together)

12 Week scan fine, 20week scan babys NT was measuring at 6.7!! Cut off point is 6.0mm
And they couldn't see babys heart prop either so had another scan as Its a big risk of ds, had my second scan and babys NT was at 6.1 and was offered an amniocentesis to rule out ds and after alot of worry baby is 100% fine, they also checked for face abnormalities but all is fine and im sure everything will be ok with u too xx

Tbh its the age of the male that counts for down syndrome not as much us but tbh even age isn't a huge thing as u can tell with me and hubby xxx gl hunny i know what ur going through and am here if u need someone to talk too xxx

I think that they say things to cover them selves and to be exta sure, I'm 24 and was given a 1 in 5 risk had amnio test and 2 detailed heart scans and every thing came back clear, I know how worrying but the false positives are really high. fingers crossed for you. and try not to worry (I know it's a lot easier said than done) after all they are risks they are not telling you the is something wrong try to stay positive.

What made them think there was high risk? I don't think it would just be on your age- did they see something at the scan? Try not to worry yourself- my dear friend had a 1:146,000 risk of patau and sadly her baby had it, just goes to show nothing is certain - try not to worry xxxx

You are NOT too old to be having a baby. 32 is a great age to be having a child. I am 39 and having my first!

I have my level 2 ultrasound on Tuesday and like you, my NT results were excellent. Hope all goes well on Tuesday!!

When is your detailed ultrasound? Let us know how you get on - I hope everything is alright!! xo

I am having my amnio done this Wednesday. My quad screening came back with 1 out of 94 chances. I just need peace of mind, that is why I am doing this. Do what it will make you feel better:). :hugs:

32 is definitely not to old to have a child! I am 33 with my first. Is your scan different than an anatomy scan? Here we all have a detailed 20 week scan to look at all of the organs, to see how the LO is developing. It is a normal part of the process. I have mine tomorrow!

How stressful :hugs: Just keep in mind that the majority of people who are labeled high risk have non-down syndrome babies. Your chances are much better than not that the baby is perfectly healthy. The tests just set off some flags that make doctors investigate more, but 5 percent of perfectly healthy babies get a high risk....and that is A LOT of babies if you think about it. I think the average risk of down syndrome is about 1/200 babies (not sure on exact statistics) so that should mean that 1 baby with down syndrome will be labeled with high risk, and 10 babies without down syndrome will be labeled as high risk. The chances of not having down syndrome are still very very good even if you are labeled high risk! Sorry you have to go through the stress. :hugs:

Good luck with the follow up! I also don't think you're too old, so don't feel guilty. I'm 35 and my tests came back 1:10,000, which I think is really good for my "advanced maternal age." My friend's baby had a lot of DS markings, but she didn't have any issues at birth.

Thank you sooooo much for you reply. My scan is tomorrow (Tuesday27/9) in evening. My doc told since everything was fine with my 1st child i should not be worried. But my age/ weight factors impacted the results.. My NT scan results were also perfect! These will be the longest 48 hours of my life..

Thanks for your reply. My doc said its age/ weight & hormone levels that impacted the results. My only hope is the NT scan which was perfect!!

I just hope all is well..

I would like to second/third/fourth (whatever) everyone has said about age! I'm also 32, this is my first, and my results came back as 1:11,000 chance of Downs. I am not massively overweight, but I'm at the top end of 'normal weight'. I really don't think you should be worrying yourself silly. x

Thank you all for showing soo much love & concern for me. This support is truely wonderful.. I hope everything is alright.. But these will be the longest hours of my life!
