for the last 3 days amelia has been drinking non stop during the day still only waking twice in the night

I BF and i cant keep up so had to give her some formula shes taken nearly 8oz in 2 hours!! shes only just 9 weeks and 11lb 7oz

why is she doing this can it be a growth spurt? she not 3 months for another 3 weeks? never really noticed a growth spurt before.

Arrrgghh I really dont know what todo if shes not crying for food shes drinking

thanks

Gemma

Is she having a growth spurt babe? I'm sure my maternity book said they have one at around 10 weeks

Sorry I can't give advice babe but didn't want to read and run x

Probably is a growth spurt. All babies will grow on their own time table. Just keep her to the breast and your milk will catch up.

thanks ladies im hoping she will calm down soon i dont think shes getting enough from BF have been taking fenugreek to up the supply but shes always hungry after BF and i really dont want her on formula full time DH is upstairs bathing her now ready for bed

one thing is if she hasnt had much during the morning could she be trying to catch up with herself as shes just BF in the morning but by the afternoon shes always screaming for more after feeds so i have to top her up with EBM then formula when i run out of that i really am at my wits ends my boobs over night are engorged by the morning as she still only wakes twice for feeds its just during the day shes like this esp in the afternoon mornings are usually good

the screaming is getting me down

I think the best way to deal with it is just to go with it and let her feed as much as she wants at the moment. It'll be tough on you but if you keep her on the boob, your supply will start to catch up with her demand. I would be a bit reluctant to carry on giving her formula. Good luck. x

i know how you feel hun, katie's the same age and from 4pm-9she's almost constantly on the boob! she's 12lb6 so a bit bigger

your boobs wont run out of milk, the more she's on the more they'll make. i'm quite lucky cos she goes to sleep at 10 and wakes somewhere between 4 and 7 for a feed and goes back down, so it makes the hours in the evening worth it! hopefully itsjust a growth spurt and wont last forever!

stick with it tho, its hard, but will be so worth it when we come thru the other side!xxx

they are sent to try us arent they

I desperatley want to stop the formula so she poops like a BF baby again at the min its explostions every 2-3 days with lots of wind inbetween

if once shes finished on the boob and if she doesnt empty it i get the pump out and pump until i get no more milk

Amelia was born the same day as yours alice&bump 10/11/08 at 2.48am lol

Is 8oz a lot? Mine took 8oz this afternoon (6.5 weeks, 9lb13) and was hungry about 4 hours later. It was a boob's worth and most feeds he'll nearly clean me out.

for amelia 8oz is double what she normally has during a feed every babies different a couple of weeks ago she would only take 2 oz

aaw no way! where abouts are you from? you might find that even when she's off the formula she's pooing like that, katie used to go like every time we changed her nappy, but in the past few weeks she'll go a couple of days without a poo then one day she'll just have a million full nappies that are well mingin!! breast fed babies can go ages without pooping!

Great name by the way :D hehe

I wanted to ask how often does she feed during the day? My Amelia went through this and i felt like i wasn't producing enough for her, so i started feeding her every 2hours and she always has both boobs. I start on one then switch to the other and then back on to the original one. She seems very happy with that and originally she started sleeping longer through the night.

Might be worth a try if you dont already do that...

Alice&bump were from northamptonshire

After a long discusion with DH last night i've decided to switch to bottle but continue pumping as many feeds as I can the screaming is getting me down and after DH starting a new job monday we've been on our own till 6pm most days and shes starting to refuse the breast this morning i tried she was clearly hungry but wouldnt suck so she started screaming so i offered her a bottle and she took 5oz!

DH said to stop beating myself up as he and i are both worried I'll get PND I have the worst 3 week baby blues ever couldnt bond with her all that well. now i love her to pieces i only have to look at her and i cry as i made her lol queue the sick buckets

so will try the best we can with the pumping
