ive suffered this in my last pregnancy last year and now again, wondered if anyone else has this

Hi, I saw my doctor the other day about a pain that I have had in my pubic bone for the past few weeks and she otld me that I have spd. It was only happening when i would be lifting my leg to put on my knickers or pants but now its starting to hurt when I walk etc. She did say it would probably get worse. I'm 28 weeks pregnant this week. How did you cope? What was it like for you?

yep - i had it very severly last tome so much so that i was in a wheelchir and had to have an operation !!!

expecting it again this time

I have had it since 18 weeks. Didnt have it with my DS so not sure how to make it go away. Was in tears about it last night as it is so sore I dont know how the heck I am going to give birth when I cant even open my legs :-( Stephwiggy what operation did you have? Physio mentioned I might have to go into a wheelchair.. With a 21 month old?? Yeah right!

you know what the wheelchair may only have to be for big shopping trips etc so dont panic !!! and dont think about the operation as its only been carried out about 10 times in the UK its very rare !!! and it is do able - just limit you activity - so down stairs in the am and not again till bed time !! if need be you can always get someone to bring alll you willl need down stairs for the day !! if its the loo thats upstairs a camode can be borrowed from you OT (its not as bad as it sounds !!!

have you been told that you can take co-codamol - also are you getting physio maybe you need it more often

do you use a support belt - also a tube a grip on top of clothes helps alot -

with kiddo - get on line and get him a desk or alike so he can do crafty stuff and or see if you can get him into a playgroup a few mornnings a week

I will be happy to help with any specif questions just ask or PM me if you prefer - i suffered from 12 weeks with my son and have never really stopped - i had a very severe case !! so i have been there and done thats so to speak xxxx:hugs::hugs:

Thanks Steph
Luckily we have no stairs in our house as I know it is so bad when I visit friends who have stairs or go on trains etc.. Have not been told about the co-cod.. Went to physio and she didnt even touch me (I know sometimes manipulation can work). So i am going to try see my friend who is a chiro to click everything back into place.. Supposrt belt doesnt really help at all but will keep trying with it.. Hopefully I can have a waterbirth as I hear that helps with the pressure off your pelvis.. Little one does go to nursery like 2 motnings a week and he is really good and happy to keep himself entertained but I struggle to sit still for long and like to keep active (Had aqua bump yesterday which i think made the pain so bad last night as it isnt too hectic today).. Love taking him swiming and to hit golf balls etc with DH but I guess will have to let the boys go from now while i try chill.. Also HATE complaining and get so annoyed when preg people act like they are sick so think i am just super frustrated.. Seems like SUCH a stupid pain.. Just wondering about your op as my sister is in medicine (back in South Africa) and she said something about a suture?.. Sorry for hijacking thread but I guess we can all use the tips and info/advice.. I know sleeping with a pillow between legs helps!
Hope you are all having a great evening:thumbup:

aqua bump is good as long as u keep your knees together the most important thing with spd is when it hurts stop !!!! the firdt pag of my preggo journal has a pic of my op ... quite scary tho xx the link is on my signature

Wow pic looks scary.. How did you know when it was THAT bad? And congrats on your recent pregnancy, only noticed now.. xxx

i could not stadn with out crutches and or walk for than 2 steps at all -- i used to crawl and or shuffle ... this continued from 12 weeks 5 day till my son was over one - the op was done when he was 1.5... but its the last resort !!! please dont even consider it !!!!:nope::nope:

im in agony with it atm, i can feel my pelvis crunch when i turn in bed, it hurts to sit down and stand up, i feel a click in my lower abdomen and back when i walk sometimes and it hurts when i lift my feet of the floor, i spoke to my midwife today who has reffered me to a physio, i didnt have it with alys and im gutted about it! i feel useless in work and my work is hard on it being a support worker for disabled children, because not only do i need to shower and dress myself but i also get up about 3 children and do the same for them too.......i hope they can help me, anyone know how they go about it in the first appointment

xxxx

Hey I'm 24 weeks pregnant and suffering from what my midwife thinks is SPD, I've been referred to physio for a proper diagnosis and treatment, but does it feel to you, like your hips are about to fall off or dislocate? And the extreme pressure and pain across the pelvic area in your back means you can't get comfortable sat or lying down?

thats certainly what it feels like to me hun!

xx

been to see my midwife today as ive had the exact same symptoms, in agony, tried to get in bath last night but couldnt lift my leg high enough to get in so my OH had to help me get in and out. been referred to physio for a support brace fitted but thats not for 3 weeks, thats the 1st appointment they had! cant get comfy in any position to sleep im shattered! just hope i can give birth ok, thats my main worry at the min. x

hi there,
i am 18 weeks pregnant, i have just visited the MW after really suffering last night with this, i have been in discomfort for a few weeks but last night was horrendus i had to crawl upstairs on my hand and knees, it took me about 3 hrs to get comfy in bed :(. MW has fast tracked me to pyhsio so fingers crossed something can be done as i have 3 other children to look after. hope all gets sorted for you. xx

I was told on friday I have SPD, some days it hurts getting up off a chair, or getting out of bed! any advice for me?!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I haven't been properly diagnosed but I have all of the symptoms that you ladies have stated! The other night, I turned over in bed and felt my pelvis 'pop' for lack of a better way to describe it. It's truly awful! I didn't have this with DS...I would feel like my hips were about to come out of the sockets sometimes but it wasn't painful...so I just thought it was normal but now I'm thinking that maybe I just had a really mild case. This time around is completely different, though. It hurts anytime I lift my leg and it makes simple things like bending over (which I do a lot of since I have a 4 yr old) and getting in and out of bed nearly impossible.

I'm a college student and my classes start tomorrow and I'm absolutely terrified because I'm afraid that walking is going to be nearly impossible some days. Luckily, all of my classes are in the same building but since I'm a commuter student, there's a good possibility that I might have to walk a ways to my building.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to cope?
