Hi everyone. This is my first post on this website and Im desperate for any info anyone can give me.

I am suffering from SPD for the second time. After last time when I realised that a lot of health proffessionals didnt really understand it, I've been doing my homework!

My GP has said he will refer to anyone I want about this but that I have to find who I want! This would be great but finding out anything from the NHS is hard.

What I'm after is any info on NHS clinics specialising in this area/acupuncture on NHS (which Im led to believe is available in some areas) or any other info of anybody who can help with the pain side of this condition. Ideally I would like to see someone in London but am willing to travel for the right help.

Thank you so much for anything you can share
Laura

Hi hun.

I can't help with acupuncture but i have been diagnosed with suffering SPD myself.

I went to see my midwife who then reffered me to the hospital for Physio. I went along to a group class and took the advice but after 4 weeks i wasn't improving so i phoned the hospital directly and spoke to them. I got a 2nd appointment with a Physio and i was given a support belt, tubi-grip and crutches along with instructions more excercises etc... to get on with.

I have been told if the pain dosen't subside or starts to get worse even with the aids to phone her back for the next stage.

I don't think they offer acupuncture on the NHS in my town but there are a few chinese medicine places near that do acupuncture, maybe you could ask the doctor/midwife if there are any they reccomend if that is the treatment you need.

 for the pain.

thanks anyway tootsie

im so frustrated with it all at the mo. who'd have thought it would be so hard to get help when you really needed it!

hope you get some relief from physio. i promise to post any info i find. am talking to PALS on monday so maybe they can shed some light... stranger things have happened i suppose!

thanks again for replying

I went to the doctors last friday with pelvic pain and he just said its because of the baby and gave me a sick note for the rest of my pregnancy. (no help or advice)

I thought i had SPD and my midwife confirmed it on wednesday. She was great and rang the hospital and got me an appointment for tuesday.

I'm going to a group session to be shown some exercises and they will asses me afterwards.

Have you spoken to your midwife?

Hi, sorry that you're suffering. If your GP doesn't know how to access an acupuncturist, there are a couple of options of open to you. If you google 'acupuncture london' there are lots of practitioners advertised and you can set something up yourself. I'm pretty certain that the British Medical Acupuncture Society has links with the London Homeopathic Hospital so your GP/you could perhaps look into that and see if you could get acupuncture on the NHS that way? You may or may not get it for free - a lot of people learning acupuncture do it in their free time as a private sideline. Some physios and pain clinics also offer acupuncture so your GP may be able to access them. Some GPs can do acupuncture but it's likely your GP would know if one of the partners in their practice offered this. Good luck
