speech at 18 months

I heard 5 words us average for a 1 year old. My almost 18 month old can say hiya and that is it

Tommy is 1 soon and can't say anything yet just bababa, mamama, dadada sounds, not with any meaning though.

Oh Ethan was exactly the same.. Also right now all he say is hiya. At this precise moment in time I do t worry about his speech as its so obvious that he understands a lot.

Our speech therapist said its very common for girls to talk quicker than boys (I guess we need to get our practice in ;) )

my dd is 17 month almost and can understand what you are saying to her but she can barely say anything she knows basic lilltle things but no sentances etc

LO is getting on for 18 months and she has maybe 50 or so words and a few phrases/sentences. I think the actual guidelines are for an 18 month old to have between 6 and 25 words.

I remember ruby has a few sentences before she could walk unaided which she did at 17 months so id say ruby was above that at 18 months. I don't expect Scarlett to be the same, although she is a big babbler so who knows. I think they're expected to have 6 words at 18m.

Thank you everyone, sounds like he is doing on then! He seems to be coming out with one or two new words every day at the moment, today's was 'panda'! He gets very frustrated now when he can't get us to understand what he means as well!

The average word count for 18mths is 6-20 words and at a 2 year check they say 50 is average.

At 17mths we have about 15-20 words, but they're not always used and only I can understand some of them.

Thomas only had three words at 19 months and one of them was "ish" which hardly counts! The others were mama and dada. I mentioned it to the public health nurse and she said that they wouldn't be concerned at all until he was two. He had well over 50 words by two.
