I moved into a house in february. For the past few weeks I have been finding 10-15 identical spiders in the house each day. They are not the same ones as I have been killing them.

Two days ago there was a humongous one on the stairs and I had to get my son to hoover it up as I was just sobbing (stupid I know but I was absolutely terrified.)

My ex came around before to see the kids and he was in my sons room for half an hour killing identical spiders as there was loads of them.

I dont know what to do! I'm absolutely terrified to move and keep jumping everytime a bit of wind brushes my hair or anything.

He said he'll stay on the couch tonight and my son is now in my bed.

My ex said he will phone the council in the morning, but I cant see them doing anything if we phone up and say "theres loads of spiders" but the situation is worse than that. There must be a nest somewhere as they are honestly identical to each other!

Does anyone know what I can do, I'm so scared and dont know what to do. xxx

Ack!!!! Scary!!!!

I don't know if it works the same where you are [I'm in the states] but you can have a pest inspector come out and do a free inspection and estimate and they may be able to tell you where there are/how to get rid of them.

Good luck!

Oh god, you're braver than I am. I HATE spiders, I woke oh up by screeching a couple of nights ago because there was one on the bedroom floor and there was no way I was going to sleep knowing it was there. Two days later and it still haunts me. It's worth calling the council, not sure if they'd do anything but it's worth a try. Are you renting? You could always contact the landlord and see if they will do anything? I'm not sure what else to suggest, pest control if you can afford it? I'd be freaked out if I were in your shoes though!

Have you looked for a nest? I would look and see if you can destroy it. Are there more of them in a particular room? X

In the US you can buy a bug bomb and most of them say they kill spiders (as well as other insects). Do you have something like that you could put off in your home to kill them off?

Have you been having the windows open because of the warm weather? I'm just wondering in case the nest is under your roof eaves or guttering and they're coming in that way?

Thank you for all the replies. Most of them are in my sons room and the dining room, which is below his room.

I have been having the windows open, my ex said they must be coming in through the windows, I dont know though. I just want them gone. I've lived in houses with lots of spiders before, but this is ridiculous, I can't even describe how many you find.

I heard about bug bombs, I dont think you can buy them here though. xxx

Just a quick update. The spiders still seem to mainly be in my sons room. They look like they are coming from under the laminate floor that the landlord laid.

I spoke to the environmental health who said they will only come out for mice/rats and ants. They said is the landlords responsibility to do something about it.

The landlord just said they will speak to environmental health. I last spoke the agency that I rent the house from and they said they will phone me back, which was an hour ago, so I dont know when to phone back as they are the kind of people who just dont bother calling you back.

In the meantime I've got a house that is basically becoming uninhabitable and feel literally sick as I'm terrified and keep bursting into tears, which sounds so stupid but I absolutely hate spiders and feel they are crawling everywhere. I'm scared to go up the stairs at all, which is so hard as the bathroom is upstairs. I just really dont know what to do. xxx

Spiders= keep away insects like mosquitoes, bugs and other nasties. Also it means you have a good climate in the house as spiders don't go anywhere where it is humid.

I understand that spiders do help with other problems. This is not a case of "there are lots of spiders in my house" there are literally hundreds of penny sized spiders, my children are unable to sleep upstairs as they are crawling all over them. xxx

Is it not getting any better hun? :-( if they haven't come out to you yet do you reckon you could use a silicon sealant to block any gaps for now? Xx

Hiya, no unfortunately its not getting better. The agency called back and said someone from the council is coming out to survey it. I dont really want to seal them up incase they come and say there is no problem or the problem isnt that bad as there are LOADS! I just hope they phone tomorrow. xxx

Fair enough :hugs: I see what you mean I hope they come out to you really soon xxx

I feel for you, I'd be a wreck, yes they do serve a purpose but having as many as you have isn't normal, and it's worse when you have a fear of them too as you can't relax and feel comfortable in your own home. Really hope they see that there's a problem and get it sorted for you.

Oh if there are so many maybe find a insect and spider specialist who can trace them and make them go elsewhere.

I just remembered that they do sell things called spider traps here. They are basically a glue pad, kind of like those for mice. You put them along the walls and when they walk through their legs get stuck. Maybe you could get some of those (or the mouse ones if you can't find spider ones). You could leave them until they come to check too, so they would see how many.

Ewww I hate spiders! There was one in the kitchen one day and I refused to go in the whole day till OH got back from work, I literally starved that day :[
Hope you get it sorted ASAP!

What about asking your ex to take up the laminate flooring in your sons room to see if that's where they are coming from?

Must be horrible :hugs:

:hugs: I'm absolutely petrified of spiders so I seriously feel for you hun! I hope someone is out ASAP to sort it for you
