Even on all the scans I had, my LO had her thumb in her mouth. Since being born, every time she has tried to do it, I have given her a dummy and she been fine. For the past two days, she keeps spitting her dummy out to put her thumb in her mouth. Any suggestions?
(It doesn't help that at this age, it looks so cute!!)

Just let her suck her thumb, she doesn't need a dummy.

Perseverance!

Sorry can't think of anything else to suggest but if she is really determined she will probably keep it up, when she is asleep at night and lost the dummy her thumb will do!

Maybe/hopefully it will just be a phase!

I'm hoping that she will prefer a dummy over her thumb as it's easier in the long run to take the dummy off her. I can't take her thumb off her when she's in school and still sucking it... Ha x

Having a friend that sucked her thumb till 25 years old and has buck teeth for it that was my theory too!!

Thankfully my lo has always liked her dummy for sleeping, hope i havent jinxed myself!

I'd just let her suck her thumb if that's what she wants to do.

Some babies (like mine) want nothing to do with a pacifier and no amount of perseverance/brands/sizes will change that. I fully regret spending so much money and effort trying to make it happen.

I'm actually hoping my LO will find his thumb soon! He tries to suck it whenever it strays near his mouth and gets upset when it escapes him bless him.

He won't have anything to do with a dummy. I think that sometimes babies are either thumb or dummy suckers and there isn't a great deal we can do about it.

my first two hated both thumb and pacifiers. They both sucked on there bottom lip lol. Eva likes her pacifier so far. I personally would try to offer the pacifier. I mean i was a thumb sucker and it was soo embarrasing going to sleep at a friends house still sucking my thumb. My parents tried everything. Even when i wanted to stop it was so hard because subcontiously i was stil doing it.

I would try not to worry about thumb sucking at this age as I don't think there's much you can do to stop her if she's determined. I sucked mine until I was about 4 and my teeth were fine. DD sucked her thumb and stopped herself at about 7 months, I even asked an orthodontist who said it wasn't a big deal until adult teeth come in.

My LO always wanted to suck his thumb too and i always just took it out his mouth and put the dummy in. My OH had to have his teeth fixed and still as a bit of an overbite from sucking his thump until he was nearly in school.

Just keep doing it. every now and then now still he tries but I just keep doing it and a couple of days and he will forget about it for weeks and weeks.

I also cringe when I see grown 20 year old girls on the train still sucking thumb!

I'd rather my baby used his hands than a bit of plastic in his mouth... let her use her hands...

I've read that 95% of babies that suck their thumbs outgrow it by 1 year old. LO sucked his for a few weeks, he doesn't anymore. I was worried at first but research says it is fine and not to worry until 4-5 years old. I'd rather have him suck his thumb than have to worry about pacifiers, cleanliness, disintegration, different sizes....

I really want my LO to find his thumb! Be so much easier in the night as he could get himself back off to sleep!

It would also mean I could go outdoors with him in a back carry as I cant atm incase he drops his dode as I cant see where it fell/his face to put it back!

Aw, honestly, it's absolutely fine! If you do some research, you'll discover it's not a problem AT ALL at this age.

If you think about it logically, if you believe she'll form a habit of sucking her thumb now, wouldn't that suggest that if you make her use a dummy, she'll form a habit of wanting a dummy too?! Trust me, she will not grow up to be a thumb sucking teenager, ha ha! Do people really still think things like that nowadays? I thought it was only something grandmas thought! Like no lifting your hands above your head when pregnant and rubbing dummies with gin to help babies sleep better ;-) She'll be fine, let her suck her thumb. Life will be easier.

My little one is just starting to try to suck her thumb but it's so tiny she gets frustrated & I need to pop the dummy in.

I would rather a dummy sucker than a thumb sucker, as I know people with teeth problems due to it. However, I am pretty sure whatever trait she does pick she'll grow out of it, albeit a thumb sucker tends to grow out of it later than a dummy sucker would.

My LO sucks her thumb. She does it with her pinky in the air. She's been selfsettling since 4 weeks old and now she only sucks when she about to sleep or when she's teething -she doesn't like teething rings. It's OK for babies to suck thumbs as long as they stop before the adult teeth come and most do.

My daughter was the same, even her ultrasound pictures she was always sucking her thumb. I would have paid her all my money if she'd agree to a paci but unfortunately she had a gag reflex from it and kept spitting it out. Believe me I tried like a crazy person. She still sucks her thumb at 3,5 years old :(:(:( I can't make her stop, it's insanity.

My brother who is 10 still sucks his thumb, so yes it does happen.

Yes I have a DH who until recently sucked his thumb too, he's 32 and honestly I'm not joking! He would just do it when he was upset or very tired and only in private of course.

His teeth have somehow escaped any sort of damage so I don't know if it's as much of a problem as people make out.

I would still love my LO to suck his thumb though because anything that helps this completely non settling baby is fine by me.
