I was made redundant from my previous job whilst on amternity leave. I have been offered a new job, going in to sign the contract tomorrow and due to start once i return from my holiday.
... I havent told them i have a baby (he is 6months). Does this matter? I didnt make them aware i was made redundant whilst on maternity leave, i just had my employment end date on my CV as march 2012, which is correct. On the other hand they also didnt ask if i have any dependants.
Has anybody else started a new job and the employer wasnt aware of any children or you was on maternity leave before being employed by them? Did you have any problems once they had found out.
I dont see it as a problem myself, i havent lied in any way at all however my mum said i should have told them.
I decided not to mention it as when i went for another interview, the atmosphere seemed to changed a little once i had said.
Thanks.

I can't see it being a problem that you have not told them about your LO or being on mat leave recently :nope:

It is not lying and will not affect them offering you or you signing a contract.

As long as you are NOT claiming maternity pay from one and earning from the other, it's all legit!

well done and hope you enjoy your job!! :hugs:

I don't think there are any laws saying you have to mention that you have any children. Obviously if they asked during the interview or when filling in the application form then i would tell them just in case you need to take time off if LO is sick or something because then they'd know you lied about it. But since they didn't ask I see no reason why you should have to tell them during the interview or otherwise.

It's really not something that should affect their decision - legally at least, obviously it does happen. So I say no harm done! X
