Please help!
I am switching to formula feeding-due to breastfeeding problems.

What do I need and how and when do I make up bottles?
thanks

(baby isjust over 3 months)

U need the following:

- sterilizer
- bottles ofcourse :D (if ur baby is colicy or suffer frm reflux Dr. Browns r said to be the best)
- Good brush for bottles & teats & anti bacterial liquid

At 3 mnths u dont need to get the smaller bottles. Get the large ones immediately (8 oz+). U might need one small for water at a later stage, but u dont need to give water with formula.

U can at first follow the tin/carton instruction for preparing & quantities. It usually a bottle every 4 hrs, & if u have a good baby who sleeps through, ur LO can go upto 12 hrs without feeds at night when formula fed at 12 wks. But it depends again on ur baby. So, if he/she doesnt wake up for a night feed, u dont need to worry.

Good luck xx

If u need more help u can PM me :)

Before you choose which formula to buy, check what they stock in your local shop, the one you'd go to if you ran out late on a sunday night.

Most mums on here would recommend either Cow & Gate or Aptamil. SMA is ok for most babies, but there seems to be a higher chance of problems with it than the others. Don't buy Heinz Nurture as it's discontinued.

At 3 months you may find that the teats that come with the bottles are too slow for your LO, so buy some level 2's or variflow (not all brands have variflow).

Same as above Steraliser, bottle brush, powder, bibs, sickies, powder dispensers (very handy for 1am feed - no miss counting out of scopes by sleepy OH) etc.

My way of making bottles is:

Wash and steralise bottles.
Boil fresh kettle and pour 50% of required water into required number of bottles for 24 hours (so if on 6oz bottle I put in 3oz)
Place bottles in fridge
When it comes to feed time, add required powder, boil fresh kettle and pour in other half of water, mix well
serve

This made the perfect drinking temperature for my LO to drink. no need to worry about heating it up and bottle made when needed in 2 mins flat so screaming baby kept to a minimum.

When I'm out I simply take powder in a little dispenser, bottle with 50% of water and add boiling water from a thermos (Thermax by thermos keeps water boiling for 24 hours).

Hope this helps!
