Is this the right place to ask ? :flower: I thought you ladies might have good knowledge about looking after sterilisers and hoped you might share ...?

I have an Avent steam steriliser which was given to me, so its about 5 years old (and came with no instructions :dohh:) I use it maybe once a day or every other day. To clean it I take the tray things out and wash them in soapy water, and wipe the inside of it - I descale it with citric acid maybe every month or so. But - its starting to really smell wierd inside? like a sort of damp slightly mouldy smell, even after I've cleaned it? Is this normal? or should I not really be using it?

How do you clean your sterilisers and how often? Am i missing something?

TIA :flower:

I use Milton in mine, 5 litres of cold water to one tablet, leave for 15 minutes and rinse. I do this once a week.

I used to de-scale mine about once a month but had no smell issues :s

Again used the tablets and followed instructions .... When its not in use I used to tip any left over water out and let it air dry

:flower:

Cool thanks ladies! I didnt have milton tablets but i had some liquid so I used that. Seemed to work a treat! Can't beleive I didnt think of it myself :dohh:

I think I've cleaned mine about 3 times in nearly 9 months. Very bad mummy! But surely the very fact it sterilises the bottles etc inside means its automatically clean inside anyway??????
