Its still a long way off... but I think I want to sterilise the old fashioned way - Milton cold water sterilising.
Anyone else doing this? pro's and con's?

Yes i am?? is this old fashioned??? whats the new way??

The microwave or electric sterilisers are the more modern way. I like the idea of washing them then letting them soak - takes 15 mins and u can leave them in the solution for up to 24 hours.

we do both :D we have an electric stream steriliser and a milton cold water one, i prefer the liquid over the tablets, and i love my cold water steriliser, the only down side is it is slightly too small for 6 bottles and accessories - everything goes in there, spoons plates dummies etc x

i love cold water sterilising as you can leave the bottles in therew til you need them but with steam they only stay sterile for up to 6 hours once the cycle has finished so if like me you make your bottles up as needed the steriliser would always be on

the cons for me is the horrible bloody smell of thhe fluid

yes i am!! i dont trust steam sterlilizers and i dont think mircowaves are safe so ill be sticking to the milton liquid!!!

I love our water steriliser we use the milton liquid rather than the tablets the fact that you can leave the bottles to soak for 24 hours as opposed to 3 hours in the steam steriliser did it for us. We just find it so much easier, the down side is it ruins your hands!

I've never even heard of milton sterilizing? Ive always just boiled them in a pot.

I use the cold water method, it's so much easier.
I just make up the solution every night and take the bottles out when needed. No fuss.
Easy to just put her dummys in aswell.

Yes I use Milton. I also have a microwave & an electric steam steriliser as well. Good thing about milton is you can leave dummies, teats etc in it and get them out whenever you need. But you have to remember to change the water and add another capful of milton every 24 hours.

I use milton too, not much at the moment as I'm just starting to wean off boobie and on to bottles. I went for it for the same reasons as others said, the stuff stays sterile for 24hrs rather than just 6 or 3 for the steam and microwave ones.

Yep we use cold water too. I'd just be annoyed if I had to put on a steriliser every time I needed a bottle etc so it's much handier for us. I've been using washing up gloves to try and save my hands! :)

i'll be a milton girl too when the time comes! I just think the microwave things are so blooming bulky and I have little enough space as it is! Not really seen the electric ones tbh but still think I'd stick to the milton.

I have made my first cold water sterilisation with the Miltern liquid and it says 2 capfuls to the fill line but I can not see a fill line so filled until full and do I really not need to rinse?? Please help x

cold water is the best i've found, as it keeps the sterilised for 24 hours, cheaper, and simpler as you just throw everything in and its all done in 15 mins.

only downside is it makes teats a cloudy colour.

i use the tablets cos i'm always scared i might put too much or too little liquid in
x

i would love to do it the milton way but the smell of it makes me physically sick, i tried with my eldest and my mum had to go and buy me a microwve unit the day after he was born.

so if you cant handle strong bleachy smells could be big downfall.

Yep you just need to fill the cap up to the top with the milton solution. You don't need to rinse, i just shake of any excess liquid.

Yep, the fill line is right near the top, its just a dotted line around the inside. I just fill up to the brim. Definitely don't rinse, just shake off the excess fluid, if you rinse then you'll make them un-sterile again. Do you have the milton sterliser bucket?

I use milton and have an electric one.. i use the electric one but have the milton on hand incase it breaks, have a power cut or for like out for the day to take with me
