Sterilizing on holiday....quick reply's this week please!!

Ok, so ladies im after abit of advice....like the title says...how did you sterlise babies bottles on holiday?
We are travelling to turkey on friday and the main thing i am worried about is the sterlizing of my daughters bottles.
She is 5 and half months old, we are staying in a self catering appartment-there will be kettle and hob, but no microwave...that i know of, but we are not wanting to take the microwave sterlizer anyway-way to bulky, and she doesnt get luggage alowance as it is!
I have bought some of those sterilizing tablets, but do i litrally put boiling water into a pan or something large and then add the requirered amount of tablets, or do i put the tablets in cold water-what is best? I know this will probally say on the back of the tablets, but what would you do?
I am making her bottle up with bottled water-which i will then boil, so thats no problems, but when sterilizing do i use boiled water or cold water...also how long do they take to sterilize?

I used the Milton steriliser tablets when I went away last weekend. I just popped them in cold water & left the bottles etc for 15 minutes.

This worked perfectly for me!

boots do some bags that you just fill up with cold water and put the bottles/bowls in. They arnt cheap but do the trick x

You can either boil them in a pan of water for i *think* 10mins or just a bucket of cold water with the tablets. Which ever is easier for you.

I used milton tablets in cold water. You dont need to rinse the bottles & they stay sterile for 24 hrs, & you can leave them in the solution then take every bottle out when you need to use it. (they'r sterile after 30 mins)

I used to rinse the teats with hot water to wash out the taste of the solution. Just make sure to use the right amount of water (I think 1/2 tablet needs 2.5 ltrs of water).

we took our tommee tippee microwave/cold steriliser (we just filled it with clothes and whatnot so that it didn't actually use up much luggage space. we took the milton tablets, which are one tablet for the full steriliser of cold water - took 15 minutes

Only good if you have a decent sink - we had one where the water leaked out in a few minutes (which was highly annoying when hand washing nappies !)

Thanks! So looks like i put the tablet in cold water and leave for 20mins or so. I will wash bottles in soapy water first before doing this-just like i do at home

We've experienced that too, I just put a flannel over the plughole so that the water drained slowly and there was enough in there for 15mins to do the job. If not, find a big bowl, bucket etc and use that.

Milton tablets are the way to go. One tablet for every 4lts of cold water (just confirm the measurements. The box should come with instructions). The only con with the tablets is that your baby could get diarrhea if you have never used these tablets before (at least that's what happened to my twins).

The cheapest solution, however, is to sterilise the bottles in boiling water on the stove. It's the oldest method and does the trick. You just put bottles and teats in a pot of cold water. Place on stove and let it boil for some time.

I was so stressed about sterilising when on holiday but it was so easy! I just took a tupperware with a lid and a box of milton tablets, that's all you need for sterilising!

So I before I left I put a mark on the tupperware where 5litres is with a permanent marker. I did this so I didn't have to measure out 5litres everytime i wanted to sterilise. My tupperware was 7.5litres and I could fit 5 bottles in there at a time, it was just a basic plastic box with a lid! Not heavy for the suitcase and I just put bottles and bits in it so it didn't waste any space in the suitcase.

So I'd wash the bottles (I took fairy liquid, a sponge and bottle brush) put them on the side then once finished washing I'd put them in the sterilised water for 15 minutes, then take them out, shake them off, put them together and leave them on the side ready to be used!

With the water, I'd just fill with cold tap water to the 5litre mark, put in the tablet, leave it to dissolve then it was ready to use! I would dissolve the tablet only once a day as the water stays sterilised for 24 hours. When it wasn't being used it just cover it with the tupperware lid. So when I got back to the room in the evening after dinner and stuff, that was when I'd do the water, so that way I knew it was 24 hours or so since I last did it.

The sink in our room didn't have a plug, so hubby 'fashioned' a plug made from a nappy bag and a round plastic shape from LO's shape sorter...

We just measure out the correct amount of water and then used a milton tablet... that was after washing with hot soapy water... after 15 mins, job done...simples

MAM do self sterilising bottles - you just put water in the bottom section then stick them in the microwave (obv this only works if you have a microwave to use!) other than that i agree with the steriliser tablets they do the trick too!

Wow Nut_Shake thats very organised! And a great idea with the tuperwear!
I have got the tablets, but was debating wether to use these or wether to just boil them on the stove in boiling water-i will ask when we get there to make sure i have a big/large sauce pan if i do it that way-thats what my mum said she did with us when we were little and she took us away.
Hmmmm confused at the options now! I will just take the tablets and see whats best-make sure i have a big sauce pan tho and then i can do either in that x
