Had good news yesterday about my DH sperm anaylsis. The doctor told DH he had plenly of swimmers and they were all well formed. However he did mention the sample had been very sticky although he is not overly concerned.

Anyone else had sticky sperm mentioned as a cause for concern from a sperm anaylsis? Could it be diet related?

The doctor didn't order another test and is going to refer us to an obstetrician. I was wondering any ladies from Northern Ireland have any idea how long a referral might take? I am not sure which hospital he is referring us to I guess the Ulster which is closest or a Belfast one - City or Royal. As it was my DH who spoke to the doctor he didn't ask as many questions as I would have done about the referral process.

Thanks.

Hiya shalagirl ...

Your doc could be referring you anywhere really, but I would imagine it would most likely be the RFC at the Royal as it's the only hospital in NI that has funding for IVF treatment if that's the road you end up going down. I believe the waiting time for initial consultation can't be any longer than 13 weeks, so you'll most likely be seen pretty quickly - after that it can take ages though.

Did you hear Radio Ulster today? Michael McGimpsey was on talking about the £1.5M investment into the RFC, and how it should help reduce the waiting list from 18 months to 12 months. Finger crossed it speeds things up all round, eh?

BTW, if you want to go to a particular hospital, you can request a referral to that hospital. It doesn't have to be the one closest to you.

Good luck in getting some answers - I've not heard of sticky sperm before so can't really advise on it.

Thanks Maz - I did hear the report on the radio that more money was going to be put into fertility treatment and was thinking I am sure there are a few ladies hoping that money filters in pretty quick so things can progress for their treatment. I see from ur ticker ur only a few days away from egg collection - wishing you all the best for the next couple of weeks.

Thanks shalagirl. We're going private at the moment, but apparently I am only 2-3 months away from my NHS slot being offered, so I now have my back up plan in place ... woohoo - pressure's off now
