coz I'm not well and I need to take the medicine. My body is really down, and underweight
It upsets me so much coz i want to B'feed for a year
Oh is feeding him formula milk now, LO's been crying for my milk and pulled my top down to get the milk:cry::cry:
I need to put on 3 kg to be back to normal again
I hope i can start B'feeding again

is it possible?
WHat should i do with engorgement problem after i stopped b'feeding?

Re-lactation is possible at any stage. Successs varries but I think unless you have problems breastfeeding now that anyone can re-lactate. It is hard work though. I am doing it right now... I pump every 2 hours during the day and every 4 hours during the night. The only to be concerned of is nipple confusion but it seems like Lincoln is old enough that shouldn't be a problem. But IF it is you could try an SNS system cause it will give the fast flow of the bottle still right at the breast. I would suggest for engoregment right now if you have a pump to just express it until you get relief slowly cutting down on expressing times.

No advice hun just wanna give you a big :hugs: Youve done so well feeding him for this long xxx

Can you pump while you are on the meds? At least pumping would keep stimulating you to produce milk.. Once you are better and off the meds you could let him bf again... If its just a week or two I dont think you will have any trouble.

thanks everyone
these are brilliant advice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for over a week, but i need to put on some weight too
so might take a few weeks, if i can't B'feed him again then i have to continue formula milk
I've been really ill and throw up a lot
Got to look after myself more so I can do my job as a mother properly
LO didn't take the bottle, he cried to sleep tonight :cry::cry:

And he's also not very well, he needs this milk
when i tried to give him the bottle he looked at me in the eyes and cried (not proper cry)
I almost gave in

I agree with Ryder. If you think you'd like to carry on you could pump to keep your supply stimulated. :)

What meds are you taking ? There are very very few medications that are not compatible with breastfeeding and if the one you have been prescribed is not suitable there are generally alternative meds...it just is a case of the pharmacist and doctor looking it up!!!

If you baby is off the breast for a week it could be very hard to convince them to go back again...even if you keep your milk supply. A much better option would be to find meds that are safe in breastfeeding and continue :-) (((hugs)))

OK, cool I now have 10 posts so I can give you a great link!!

www.drjacknewman.com

This is the website of Dr Newman, a Canadian world renowned breastfeeding specialist! If you email him directly at [email protected] about your medication he can advise you on it's compatibility and possibly even recommend an alternative if necessary. He is a lovely man and answers his emails very quickly!

He's a BF guru!! He was at the home of one of my FB friends recently. That's great that you can email him direct! Thanks for the link Britmum! :)

:hugs: xxx Hope you're better really soon and you can find alternative meds.

I agree about the pumping - it'll be loads easier than trying to relactate xxx

Good luck hun, im sure if the meds do what they are supposed to you will be back in good shape in no time... Just make sure you eat well!!!

Who's your FB friend? She is probably one of mine too lol I am training with Dr Newman right now and he is also a friend. He is a great man and knows more about breastfeeding than anyone else on the planet...in my opinion lol His information sheets on his website do cover most issues.

going to email him later
he didn't take much from the bottle last night, only a few ounces

Have a read through the article on bottle feeding breastfed babies:
https://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/bottle-feeding.html

Be careful with the size and speed of a feed, babies (older ones too) can decide that they like the ease of bottle feeding and go off the breast. If they have too much at once, they can stretch thier stomach, and aren't as content with little and often they get from breastfeeding.

I was advised to never give more than 4oz at once, and to always use a newborn teat. The baby should have a 'paced' bottle too - wind them regularly, take the teat out and talk to them and cuddle them. Anything to make it take as long as a breastfed feed would take.
