Hi All, got a question about stopping sterilising bottles. My lil one is 7 months old and i'm wondering as she seems to stuff everything she touches into her mouth, do I need to still sterilise her bottles?

I prepare her bottles (and have since birth lol) by sterilising and then putting cooled boiled water in them, sealing and leaving on the side until she wants one, then adding powder and serving, so my question is...if i stop sterilising is it still safe to put the water in the bottles and leave it, or should I prepare a bottle as and when I need it. Dont want germs growing in her bottles!!

Thanks in advance for your answers :D

i just stopped sterilising when i stopped giving them bottles which i think was about a year old i did it more out of habit than anything else tbh
and i was only using cartons of ready made milk after about 6 months

I've never seen the point in being so crazy about sterilising bottles. I've had 3 or 4 different pediatricians tell me that sterilising them after every feed really isn't necessary. Hot water & dish soap does the trick just fine.

I've never sterilised my sons bottles. Well, ok... once or twice I have if I find one that was left in the car for weeks or somehow ended up hiding behind/under the couch.

I'm going to sterilise her milk bottles until she stops having them. I'd rather that than worry my washing up is not up to scratch / dish brush is dirty.

It's not the point that they're putting everything else into the mouths. Sterilising is recommended because milk is such an idea breeding ground for nasty bacteria.

If you mix the powder with room temp water the feeds are not sterile anyway btw. Ok so lots of people do this without any problems but why take unnecessary risks in addition to the ones we are forced to take.

I completely agree with Claire, I will be sterilising her bottles for as long as she has them. Bottle teats and milk together make for an ideal place for bacteria to grow. It doesn't take me any longer to put them in the steriliser, so why not, I only do it with bottles anyway, not cups etc.

I make up all my feeds in advance too, but after sterilising they very quickly get filled with boiling water and milk powder, so they are sterile still. I would really not feel comfortable with not sterilising.

I fully agree with the 2 ladies above. I will be sterilising up to 12 months as recommended. It only takes one nasty tummy bug for a Lo to be quite ill.

It's not worth the risk

Thanks for your advice ladies, figured as i'm already doing it i may as well carry on until she stops having bottles :D thanks again :D
