Hi everyone :)

I'm 17 weeks today woohoo! .. its finally starting to go quickly! I've had shooting cervical pains for pretty much most of the pregnancy.. last night I woke up because it was beating or throbbing, not quite sure which or are they even both the same lol (its too early to function!!) is this normal??

My worry of the week is that I have a short cervix.. I was told its uncommon but reading on here it seems so common and just another thing I have to be scared of! I know lots of people have had the shooting but has anyone had what I had last night?? xx

I have no experience with the shortened cervix as far as I know but I have had a lot of cervical pain. Usually it's just because of pressure in that area and as baby gets bigger they can really poke and prod it which hurts too.

I've had lots of different pains shooting and sharp ones mainly, but last night it was just a contant pulse like a heart beat but it was sharp too.. unless my baby has got the rhythhhhmmm already I doubt very much it was him :(

Been trying to ring midwifey and left messages but as usual they wont ring me back until 3 then probably tell me to see my Dr! Arghhh! I wish it was January xx

Around17 or 18 weeks with my DD I started with heavy feeling down there, then like a scratching and prodding feeling. It's an awful feeling now I remember!

I was worried about short cervix, but I worried on until my 20 week scan where they said no, thats a long cervix, no worries!

I can't help but think, how any of these people who didn't know they were pregnant missed all these awful symptoms! That cervix thing is soooo uncomfortable! (oh, and not to mention the BUMP!!!)

:)

Have no fear, you're not alone! I sometimes feel like my cervix wants to escape! I get terrible shooting pains, uncomfortable Braxton Hicks contractions and have been cramping on and off since week 6 but baby seems to be fine with LOADS of movement. My physiotherapist calls the phenomenon 'Lightning Vagina' and that is *such* an apt description!

I worry that my cervix is shortening too but I think that it is actually not that common (even though there are lots of posts on here about it). Remember that there is so much happening down below at the moment, massive increases of blood flow and pressure of the baby squashing things around in order to make room for the growing uterus can cause a lot of discomfort. So try not to worry, it seems to be totally normal :) I use a gym ball to sit on to relieve the pain and that helps a treat xx
