Help me! long story short a stranger kissed my baby and and i noticed she had a cold sore im freaking out!! I hope my 2 month old doesnt contract this from her! Anyone know anything about this ?
what are the chance of my baby getting it? help!

omigosh i would be pretty upset! i am shocked she would even touch her :( so sorry! :hugs: i dont have any info im sorry but didnt want to r&r and wanted to tell you that id be mortified too :( chances are though baby will be okay.. where did she kiss ur LO?

Not to alarm you but just to be on the safe side, I would go to your doctor asap and explain fully.

Two months is still within the danger zone of severe complications if your baby does contract the virus. The doctor may decide to prescribe your baby anti-virals as a precaution, or they may be able to reassure you about the very low risk of transmission.

I realised on Tuesday that my dry cracked lip had developed into a huge cold sore spreading right across my bottom lip! DS is 8 weeks and like you I panicked and felt so so guilty for exposing him to it. I noticed he had a wee cpld sore like blister on his lip as well so got an emergency appointment with my doctor. She said it wasn't anything to worry about at the time and to bring him back if he stopped eating or was otherwise unwell, and that I did the right thing by getting him checked.

Suppose the point of my story is to say get your LO checked as you can never be too careful when they're so little and it'll put your mind at ease xx

As other pp's have said I'd contact your doctor to be on the safe side.

I don't get cold sores but do sometimes get pimples right above my lip line so hopefully it was just a spot rather than a cold sore.

I acciddntly kissed my LO when he was a few months old and I had a coldsire. He didnt catch it thank goodness. They have immunity from us when their young maybe thats why xx

Did she kiss him on the lips? Or would he have somehow rubbed where she kissed into his mouth? It will mostly spread when the virus gets in the mouth--if it's the cheek or head transmission chances are low.
I would have lost my shit on that lady, you do NOT kiss someone else's baby!!! And a strangers baby??

I would have had to try really hard not to lamp her. Why on earth did she do that? I get cold sores and wouldn't dream of doing this. Silly cow. (coldsore lady, not you!) x

People are CRAZY! I'm infuriated for you hon. I'd like to echo other posters, and say--give your pediatrician a call.

I read a lot about this when DD was little, as my Mum had a coldsore and so we agreed she couldnt come over to visit until it had gone. I read it is particularly dangerous if the Mother doesn't suffer with coldsores (I don't) as the Mum wouldn't have passed on the protection to baby in pregnancy. I would get checked either way but definitely do if you are not a herpes carrier xxx

ETA - it was the first heard about the dangers when Mum said she didn't think she should come over due to a coldsore, as she remembered when my Nan was a maternity nurse she wasn't allowed to go to work with a coldsore. Then I did a lot of research. It was taken a lot more seriously years ago, nobody even mentioned it to me when i was pregnant. NCT and the NHS ought to tell people! xxx

I would take LO to the doctors ASAP to make sure. What a weirdo!

Yuck! What is with strangers thinking they can go near/touch our babies?! I would never ever touch someone's child if I didn't know the person!

I am sure your LO will be fine, def contact your GP for peace of mind.

OMG!!! I would have beenn apoplectic.
I find it bad enough that a complete stranger felt they had the right to kiss your baby, but with a cold sore??????

I would have had a fit. That was very rude and inconsiderate.
I would get advice from your Dr or pediatrician asap, just to be on the safe side.

thanks everyone i just spoke to the DR and he said the chances of lo getting it is extremely low since it was on the cheek he said even if it was on the lip it would still be low Thank god he told me to watch out for any blisters on her face or body otherwise shes going to be fine its very scary but im trusting the dr right now

Phew. Everything crossed for you but sounds good. :flower:

Have you ever had a cold sore yourself before pregnancy? If so, thats usually good news as it would means less severe for your LO. She probably still have your antibodies stored in her system (or already developed antibodies for herself). Plus the breastfeeding. Babies whose mother that never had cild sores are usually the ones who gets it bad.
