Pretty much all around me everyone's jobs have slowed down and people have been getting laid off or their company isn't doing too good. Well, at my husband's job they cut an hour off of everyone's day through the work week and now they are cutting one Friday a month off from everyone (without pay). This is hurting us financially. We live pay check to pay check as it is and now we will just have to sacrifice things and we haven't even bought furniture for the baby yet. My husband was talking about getting a second job (but never actually applied for anything). Now he's wondering if he should just look for another job, but everything in construction is slow. I have a job and we are slow, but so far everything with my job is okay (that I know of). Anyone else in this situation?

i dunno how we manage hun, but we do :hugs: lots of places sell baby furniture 2nd hand etc :D :hugs: ull manage xxx

Not quite in your boat...my hubby and I are lucky to have stable jobs. We are okay right now, but trying to figure out how to pay for daycare for 2. And I will have to take some leave without pay for maternity leave, so that will hurt us. Right now we are planning to have baby (boy or girl) use my son's hand me downs. We are going to move my son into a spare adult bed we have (he will be 3 when baby arrives) and use his crib for the new one. We are also considering cloth diapers. A huge outlay initially, but will save us money in the long run. I just keep trying to tell myself that it always seems to work out somehow. Hang in there...where I am (Michigan) a ton of people are in your shoes, our automobile industry, which is all we have, is in the toilet. A second job, even just for a little bit, might allow you to buy some stuff you really need.

We are hurting, but we're not totally breaking the bank or anything. I'm just worried that he will get laid off because they have talked about it. Either they will lay off the lazy worker or him because he makes more money. My parents have a crib that we can use and I'm pretty sure we will since it is free. I have saved some money and have tried saving more but it's been hard. Hopefully when we get our taxes done we will have some spending money for the baby (crossing my fingers). I have been price checking different places to see who has the better deal on car seats and furniture. Our economy just sucks right now.

A friend just turned me on to this site. It might help.

https://www.diaperswappers.com/ It has a for sale or for trade section and she found a great diaper bag that had never even been used.

I have also found that craigslist.com is a great resource for furniture. All of my girlfriends have said to go for second hand stuff for the baby. It is cheaper, plus they go through clothes so fast.

before I met my DH I was sooo freaking broke, I know how stressful it is. :hugs:

Thank you Samantha675 for that website. I will have to check it out later. I appreciate it and I totally forgot all about Craig's list (dummy me..).

I am sure you will manage, love :hugs:. If you two do want to make a bit of extra $ before baby arrives though, perhaps getting a second part time job in the months before baby arrives can help? I have a few friends who's DH/OH took on a second job before baby arrived, just to make sure to make ends meet. It's tough work, but if you two feel you need the extra bit, putting in a few hours more of work for a few months may pay off.

Good luck :hugs: I'm sure you guys will be fine :)

edit: Oh i am a member at diaperswappers! the mamas there are all so friendly, and it is a great place to buy used and unused baby items from a trustworthy group of mamas!

I totally hear you! My DH is in the Real Estate industry (he's not a Realtor or loan guy) and they have drastically cut his commissions and pay. He got laid off at one company 4 days before Christmas, but he still hasn't gotten commission at his new company, so money is REALLY tight for us right now. I'm very worried about it. He works 70 hours a week for them, so he can't get another job. I'm working my butt off to make my company successful, but like most business owners, you don't make a lot of money!

I know how it feels hun my work has slowed down heaps and my partner has had lots of time off work at the moment i have been unwell and hardly able to drag my self to work when i have hours we can barely make rent and food plus the rest
