So I've started trying to buy baby clothes & am planning on dressing baby mainly in baby gros to start with, and adding cardigans, blankets etc to keep baby warm. I keep reading everywhere that I need vests, but do you use vests under a baby gro? I thought baby gros were okay on their own? So do I only need vests for outfits?
Clearly I've never had a baby before, so there will inevitably be more dumb questions where this came from!

in the winter yes you do need vests i always buy more vests than anything else they keep baby warm with an extra layer plus any poppers or anything on babygros wont be able to irritate the skin another thing they keep the nappy in place so you get less leaks on the sides lol x

I too would say yes to the vests too. My DS was wearing his under his sleep suits and outfits. Come the summer when it was too warm then he would sleep with just the vest on.

Ah thanks, I think you're now becoming my go-to gal for all these questions that keep popping into my head! You've been answering all my threads :-D
Do you go for the ones with tshirt sleeves or the sleeveless ones?

& thanks Sharan for answering too. I guess that makes sense, my niece was a summer baby, so that's prob why she wore them less... November in Scotland is likely to be cold so I'll definitely add them to the list!

personally i just get the short sleeve ones the long sleeve ones are really hard to get on their tiny arms i always panic im gonna tug to hard to get babies arm through lol x

there is no such thing as a stupid question chick! I phoned and asked my mum for you lol, she says short sleeve vest under long sleeve babygrow is a MUST lol! Also said that babygrows and cardis are best for new babies for heat, comfort and convenience lol! She is a nurse and had 5 babies so I take her advice lol! I'm in N.I and it's cooooold in winter! xx

a great question! I too have been wondering about whether or not we need vests and clearly haven't done this before either, so thanks! I will be buying some short sleeved vests next pay day!

Thanks for asking that question! I too am a first time mum although god-mother to 2 boys, I still have sooo much to learn.

I know it's a bit overwhelming at times  and some questions seem so silly but i guess they're not!!

I'm glad you're asking these questions, it's a very good one! My stupid question - is a baby vest the same as an adult vest?! aka pretty much like a tshirt? Or does it have a bottom bit too? I'm confused by all the different things you can get and the different names everything has too!

It has a bottom bit which poppers in between the legs. You can get them sleeveless, short sleeved or long sleeved, but by others advice the short sleeved things are best & then long sleeved baby gro over the top.

Ah ok, so if those are vests, what the hell is a baby gro?! Arggh! I thought the baby gro was the all in one thin tshirt material thing that babies wear under little outfits! Sorry, hijacking the thread with my lack of knowledge!

No worries, I love this forum, it's so good for answering all the different questions!
A baby gro is like an all in one sleep suit which covers arms, legs & feet (as well as body). They usually have poppers down the front and the inside of legs for good nappy access.
It seems that they're the most practical outfits for baby's first few months as they're comfy to sleep in & convenient to change. Tesco have a pack of 3 plain white ones for only £4.50 or £7 for colours/patterns.

Oh god thanks for asking this!! I know it might have felt stupid to ask but I wouldn't have even thought to question it, I didn't realise bubba needed a vest under a babygrow. I thought it was vests under outfits or a babygrow.
I'm due in October so it'll be colder and I wouldn't have thought to ask if you hadnt x

Oh thank you for your help! Yeah I thought 'vests' were just another name for babygros so that's really helpful to know. I think it's a sign on my raging hormones that not knowing this has made me want to cry a little bit! So glad for this forum right now!

hey just remember noone knows anything at first its all learnt as you go along this is not my first and im still learning lol xx

They usually say to put on one extra layer of clothing than.what we are wearing...but yes i would put short sleeved vest babygro and cardigan x
