Hi Miel
Yes, I have SCH. At the moment I am in Greece so the course of treatment can be different from the States but this is what I was given as instructions.
First of all I had brown bleeding from week 5 that resulted in a massive red bleeding in week 6. The blood loss was huge and it was blood and clots and pain. I thought I was having a miscarriage. In the UK they dont prescribe anything they told me that i am probably loosing the baby and send me home. I took a flight to Greece were I am from.
My gyno here told me that part of my placenta had seperated from the uterus and probably that is why this was caused and he did the following:
- Scanned me and confirmed foetus and hb
- Put me on complete pelvic rest as well as bed rest
- Monitor me with weekly scans to check hematoma and baby's hb
- Gave me the following medication: Progesterone ( suppositories), Injections of Progesterone every week, Prezolone ( which is a corticosteroid), Paracetamol ( to stop the uterus from contracting due to the clot).
I am now week 12 and still taking them, but my bleeding has stopped for the past 3 weeks. When we scanned yesterday he couldnt see the hematoma. My doctor told me that my placenta is really low and that is why it seperated in the first place and we had the bleeding. He said it will most likely move upwards as the pregnancy progresses, but if not then worse case scenario will be placenta previa which involved a very bloody pregnancy.
He told me that the only drug that I will remain on from now on is the Prezolone, and as for bed rest he told me that I need to still take it easy, start standing up, walking a bit, but no house work, lifting or any strenuous activity.
There is a great group that I am part of that has been a great help to me. Here is the link: https://groups.yahoo.com/group/SCHGroup/
Usually from what I read, most doctors in the UK wont ask women to go on bed rest however in the US opinions differ. Most women on the above forum have been on some form of bed rest and have seen major results. Usually the site and location of heamatoma plays and important role. I personally swear by bed rest and I am convinced that this is what saved my baby.
I hope your SCH resolves very quickly. Usually they either bleed out or get absorved by the body by week 20. The brown blood is old blood my doctor said and not to worry when it comes out. He is only concerned about red fresh blood.
Big hugs anything you want to ask please do not hesitate XXXXX
