HELP- slightly abnormal uterus, different sized ovaries

Hi ladies

I wonder whether anyone can help. I'm 32 and have been TTC for 18 months. I recently underwent the usual fertility tests- bloods, internal ultrasound and hsg.

My hsg showed the dye filled and spilled out of my tube. However the report also said "slightly irregular uterine cavity possibly due to submucosal fibroids. My appointment to see the doc isn't for a few months and I wonder whether you ladies have experienced or heard of a similar issue and how that can impact conception and what I can do about it.

My ultrasound said the cavity was normal but I understAnd the hsg is more accurate. The ultrasound said ovaries were normal and accessible but my right measures 30x22x23 whereas my right is 28x12x19. Is this normal?

Any help or advice would be gratefully received. Thanks.

I had a large submucosal fibroid and several smaller fibroids last year. They were causing me to have extremely heavy menstral cycles. I ended up having to have an abdominal myomectomy last summer. At first, the Dr. told me that I could TTC 6-12 mths after the surgery. But when I pressed him, he said 4-6 mths.

While the abdominal myomectomy is a major surgery, they say it's the best surgery to do for fibroids if you want to conceive b/c the Dr. can sew your uterus up better. However, there are less invasive surgeries out there that are also good options.

From my understanding submucousal fibroids push into the uterus and which distorts the uterine wall and lining (look that up online just to make sure I'm saying it right).
I was able to conceive in April of this year- the same month that I had my HSG. But that ended in MC.

As far are your ovary size and other related ovary questions, I don't really have an answer for that.

Lastly, why do you have to wait a few months for a Doctor appt? That's a long time!

Hi lisalee, thank you for your response.

Really sorry to hear if your miscarriage but hopefully you will get your bfp again soon and have a happy and healthy 9 months!

I'm in London and the Nhs waiting list is long. It's ridiculous! This is to see the Nhs fertility consultant though. I am seeing a private doc on mon though and have to pay for it myself. Hopefully he will be able to shed some light on it. I'm also going back to my gp to see if he can offer advice.

I've read up online and it appears that hysteroscopy myoectomy is recommended for submucosal fibroids. Why were you not offered that? Because of the big fibroid? My medical insurance may not cover that op if it's fertility related. Sucks!

Where are you lisalee?

At 1st I was offered the hysteroscopy. But when I went to another Dr. to get a 2nd opinion, he said the fibroid was taking up a large part of my uterus and that surgery would not work.
If the fibroid is causing you any pain, heavy bleeding, etc, it should definitely be called a fertility-related treatment. Fibroids are a health issue. Increased fertility is just a side benefactor of having them removed.
I am in the US.

Thanks Lisa. How were you diagnosed?

What are your next steps?

I was diagnosed by ultrasound.
I am currently going to continue my TTC efforts b/c I am no longer battling large fibroids.

Yeah go for it Lisa! Get jiggy with me Lisa. Haha

LOL! I'm about a week past ovulation (3 wks since my MC) so just waiting now.

Fingers crossed Lisa!

My appointment this morning. Scary.

Good luck! At least you have partially educated yourself to your options.

Thanks Lisa. The appointment was useful.

The doc looked at all my results:
- progesterone a bit low but should be ok. I am ovulating but the quality may be questionable.
- fsh etc look ok.
- bloods were a bit off. He suggested I get an iron profile done to make sure it's just mild anaemia. If not that, need to get referred to a haematologist.
- hsg result- he suggested I do a saline ultrasound to see if it's a fibroid, polyp or nothing.
- he suggested I do an Amh test.

He said polyps should be removed. They're easy to do. I asked if there's a risk to fertility and he said it can lead to adhesions but it should be ok as I can find a specialist. He said the hsg can't differentiate betw a fibroid or a polyp. Here's hoping!!!!!!!!

Glad you had an informative appointment. Sometimes we leave the Dr. with more questions than we came with. Hopefully, the ultrasound will give you some more answers. Overall, doesn't sound too bad tho!

Thanks lisa, did you ever have the aqua scan?

Okey dokey. Well af came ... Sigh... But on to my next tests!

I actually got a BFP last week. I didn't get a period between my last MC and the new pregnancy. However, I seemed to have lost the symptoms I had last week.

I went to get a beta (HCG count) today and will get another one on Wed. Sooo nervous. I hope this doesn't end the way the last one did.

Good luck on your tests. Can they do an ultrasound for you? That's how I found out I had fibroids.

Lisa!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you! Try to stay as happy and carefree as possible. I wish you a happy and healthy 9 months. :)

Ive actually had 2 transvaginal scans (may 2011 and may 2012). Both said cavity was ok. The 2012 one was done as part of a fertility work up too. So it's weird my hsg kinda contradicts it. A fertility specialist suggested a saline scan- basically a transvaginal scan but the put saline in me. This gives a better view.

I saw my gp and he thought the transvaginal scan is better at diagnosing polyps or fibroids and he didn't think small fibroids impact fertility. Hmmm

Thanks! I will keep you updated on my beta testing.

I would think after a trans-V scan, they would KNOW if you have fibroids. This is so strange. I never heard of an HSG showing fibroids. It's supposed to show if your tubes are clear. I hope you are able to get resolution to this issue soon. I know it's no fun being in limbo.
