Success stories with unmonitored Clomid?

My question is have there been any success stories from anyone using Clomid obtained by sources other than their doctor?

Before you call me stupid, hear me out. I live in Mexico and commute to work in the US everyday. I have medical insurance in the US per my employment and sought medical treatment for infertility in the US. I’ve been TTC since Jan of last year and was just diagnosed with PCOS in Nov 2016. At that point my OBGYN said i would be the ideal candidate for metformin + clomid due to my type of PCOS and age. But because Kaiser is Kaiser, she had to refer me out to the fertility clinic/department of Kaiser and when I called to schedule an appointment, I was told I would have to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a screening and another per appointment after that because my insurance only covers 50% of fertility treatments. I went back to my OBGYN and explained that I couldn’t afford the fertility clinic as of now, but asked if she could prescribe me the meds. She could only prescribe me the metformin to treat PCOS, but not Clomid since that’s to treat infertility (which she cannot do in her department….i know…crazy!)

So I am 13dpo today and I’m feeling quite out and moody so maybe my emotions are getting the best of me. There’s a pharmacy right by my condo so i stopped by today on my way home and just inquired about clomid. (It’s a reputable pharmacy, and I’ve been obtained meds from there in the past with no problems!) The pharmacist explained to me that I do NOT need a prescription to obtain clomid in Mexico and the box of 30 pills of 50mg will cost me around $12USD. This may sound insane, but I’m pretty convinced that if AF shows this month, I will go buy a box take on per day on CD 3-6 while continuing metformin and hope for the best. I’m doing research online and I see ladies getting a ton of hate for even inquiring about stuff like this, but honestly…does it really sound so insane?

Judgement aside, are there ANY ladies out there who have obtained clomid outside of their doctor/clinic (online, a country outside their own) and have had success, any advice for me?

Thanks in advance!!!!

a very discouraged and heartbroken gal:flower:

You won't get hate here but definitely a lot of concern....I would recommend finding a new OBGYN. I was prescribed clomid through my OBGYN for fertility but he used the medical diagnosis for lack of periods or amenorrhea. I didn't have a history of cysts so I was a good candidate. I have read stories about some OBGYNs referring to REs due to comfort levels with clomid. Like I said, try a new OBGYN. Perhaps ask around and find one who has prescribed clomid to other ladies in the past.

I can empathize with your desperation. It took us 15 months and three rounds of clomid for this pregnancy. I felt like it was never going to happen and since my health insurance doesn't pay for fertility treatments I was quite worried. Try some other avenues before you do anything impulsive! Here are some ideas that I have found helpful and other women with PCOS have found helpful...

PCOS diet to help balance hormones naturally
Red raspberry leaf
Supplements- take vitamin d in addition to your prenatal
Are you overweight, get that under control as that can have a huge impact on your hormones
Acupuncture - has helped many women ttc successfully

Also has your partner had a semen analysis? If he has sperm issues there is no amount of clomid that will get you pregnant. Luckily lifestyle changes, diet and supplements can greatly improve sperm health.

Good luck with everything!

Thanks for your thoughts. I see what you mean about trying a new OBGYN, however I've been asking around and it sounds like Kaiser is just strange about their processes. I will inquire to see if my current OBGYN could administer clomid to treat the amenorhea...I actually really like her! She's been super helpful and straightforward with me about everything. I guess another option would be to find an OBGYN in Mexico who could monitor and prescribe clomid. I've heard excellent things about the medical care there.

Well it's 14dpo today and I started spotting and cramping so AF should be here any minute...at least I have some comfort in knowing that Metformin is regulating my cycles to a certain degree. Last AF was exactly 35 days ago and the cycle before that was 32 days.

"A friend of mine" once got Clomid (100mg) without a prescription. "My friend" has PCOS. "My friend" used 100mg on CD2-5 and nothing happened. "My friend" then used 200mg on CD2-5 and got pregnant that cycle. "My friend" would have used 150mg instead but wasn't sure about cutting it in half. "My friend" wouldn't recommend this route to anybody, but "my friend" also had a great pregnancy and a perfect baby, so it's more because of the danger factor than anything else.

My sister has PCOS and went to a fertility specialist where they ran a ton of tests on her. They did a sperm test on her husband, and since his swimmers were fine, they gave her Clomid right away - she's older and had been trying for 8 years. They tried 50mg the first cycle, then 100mg, then 150mg, and she got pregnant. She miscarried, so they had her wait 3 cycles and put her back on 150mg. She got pregnant after 6 more cycles and had to go on a ton more medications to sustain the pregnancy (as the first loss was due to her body rejecting the pregnancy). She probably wouldn't have been able to sustain a pregnancy on her own, so all the Clomid in the world wouldn't have helped her get her baby.

I've gotten pregnant three times during/after a Whole30 eating plan (Google it). I got pregnant the first time after I'd been on a low carb diet for a couple of months. I mention this info TON in the TTC forum and to all of my friends who are TTC, and I've seen many other success stories, including my cousin who's 43 and just had her first baby after a Whole30. :)

Whole 30 actually helped me get pregnant too-at least that's what I'm contributing it to

Yep! My " friend" also gets her meds under the table.

Clomid: Freegaragesale or Topix or inhousepharmacy
Femara: Freegaragesale or Topix or inhousepharmacy
Trigger shots: Freegaragesale or Topix
FSH injections: Freegaragesale or Topix
Progesterone: Freegaragesale or Topix or Inhousepharmacy
Estrogen: Freegaragesale or topix or inhousepharmacy

No scripts involved.

Is it the best idea? Maybe not but you have to do what you have to do.

Thanks! I guess I have a whole lot to consider... I really appreciate you and "your friend" for sharing this with me :flower: . I'll give it a few days to think & do additional research.

I obtained my Clomid with a legit prescription, but my doctor did not monitor me at all while I was taking it. I just took it days 3-7 (50mg) and was pregnant on the first cycle, and am currently doing the same thing hoping for #2. I work in health care with people with fertility issues and I often see patients taking clomid without a ton of supervision. Usually you start with a low dose (50mg) and if you ovulate on it you do not increase the dosage. If you start to have any big weight gain/bloating/pain make sure you get seen my a doctors because there are rare complications of hyper stimulation syndrome when taking any fertility medication.

That stuff can happen under supervision too.

Honestly, I have been taking Clomid for 3 months now (50mg,100mg,150mg) and you can read up and google as much as you want, but I went to do a CD21 bloodtest every month to confirm Ovulation and I go for a U/S once every cycle just to check that everything is good. I wont suggest doing it without a doctor.

Clomid have very good success rates...but there's also risks associated with it.

I got Clomid through my doctor, firstly 50mg and then 100mg. None of my cycles were monitored, except for a blood test on CD21. I conceived on my third cycle.

I have heard of people buying Clomid online. If you look at the Soul Cyster's forum there's a thread in the TTC board about buying Clomid online. I wouldn't recommend it if you can get it by legitial sources though because you have no idea what they've put into those drugs.

I have used clomid many times unmonitored ,even when my doctor did give me a script he dident think monitoring my ovaries was necessary, the risk of serious OHSS is very slim with clomid. I did get it overseas twice from a pharmacy in India, it was the real thing, it worked and I got a BFP but it ended in miscarriage , if your taking it without a script or being monitored please read up on the risks and take a low dose no more then 50mg for 5 days CD 3-7 to start, with higher doses there is a increased risk of OHSS especially with PCOS.

Natural supplements that can induce ovulation:

Peppermint/spearmint tea :drink 2-4 cups a day from CD 1 till ovulation. reduces free testosterone , increases FSH and estrogen.

Metformin: many women with PCOS report a ovulation and oftentimes pregnancy within 6 - 12 weeks of starting metformin alone.

Low carb diet : often provides the same cycle restoring as metformin.

Soy isolavones: Like clomid is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) 100mg taken 5 days at the beginning of the cycle can induce ovulation in some women.

Vitex also known as Chaste Tree Berry: A hormone balancer can help restore cycles.

Maca (Lepidium meyenii): nourishing to the endocrine system, which controls hormone function, restores hormone balance.

Thank you all! I've been doing research and the more I think about it, I've made up my mind that if this is not my cycle. I will try clomid next cycle...will probably be back around here for advice...just waiting for AF to show up...

You can take many of those with Clomid too, so thats nice. :)

Clomid and Soy
Clomid and Maca
Clomid and Low carb
Clomid and Metformin ( havent found Met with no script)
Clomid and Mint Tea

its said not to do Clomid and Vitex.

Yes, I did clomid and peppermint tea also and clomid with raspberry leaf for increasing the lining of the uterus as clomid can have a thinning effect.

So AF finally arrived. I talked to DH and he's on board. He said he'd stop by the pharmacy tomorrow to pick it up. I should start treatment on Friday so I'll try to stock up on the supplements/teas tomorrow(been reading great things about Maca). I'm also on metformin already so I'm hoping one cycle does the trick (Fx!) Thank you all for sharing your wisdom, it means so much to be able to connect with women who are going through something similar. I broke down hard when AF got me this morning, but it was a relief to talk to DH and feel his support.
