13 months is such a cool age! She's an energetic, goofy little chatter box and it's really amazing the amount of cognitive growth that goes on. She's been really focused on learning language and is understanding more and more these days. I remember hearing people say that their 10 month old understood "X" and there was Violet understanding... pretty much nothing. Now she's surprising me by appropriately responding to various things. "Violet, where's my purse?" She responded by pointing to it! I didn't actually know where it was and had just been thinking out loud. "Violet" where's your shoe?" She responded by taking it out of my hand. I was actually looking for her OTHER shoe, but the point is, she understood. There are other examples, but these are the first to come to mind. Then there's her expanding expressive language. I think she was trying to say "bag" today and she seems to be adding "dog" to her vocabulary. I think she's also bringing "up" back. It was an early word that seemed to disappear for a while. She's definitely refining "bye bye."

In terms of non-language skills, she does really well walking up and down the isles in a store. I don't tend to hold her hand either. I try, but if she resists, I don't hold it. She has gotten pretty good at running and has gotten goofy with the way she walks and will even start crawling at times despite making the full switch to walking somewhere between 10.5 and 11 months old! She has also recently started becoming more active in the dressing process. Today when I put her on the potty with her pants down to her knees, she stood up and began walking off. I didn't stop her and she paused to pull up her pants! She had her crack hanging out and no diaper on, but it was just a first try! She's actually been pulling at her pants lately to indicate being done with the potty (usually I hold her while she goes). Switching to cloth did seem to make a difference with the potty learning process, but we're back to disposables because her diaper covers need cleaning... Oh well, perhaps just having cloth some of the time will help make a difference. (Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention that she has indicated the need to go potty by standing by the potty and posturing and making noises as if she needs to go! She's done this only twice, but it's still cool that she has done it!)

Between her getting goofy, working so hard at language, and beginning to have a bit of imagination, 13 months is a really cool age. I'm really excited about watching her continue to learn and grow. It's such an amazing process!

Feel free to use this thread to talk about what your kid is up to these days!

It sounds like she's doing really well :) I also adored that age and they just keep getting more and more awesome!

It's my favourite age and stage so far, every day she fascinates me by doing/saying something new and generally by being such a cool funny wonderful little person :)

Aww she is doing great. They really do trust get more and more awesome! They have so many funny little quirks and really develop a great personality! :)

I was just thinking the same thing last night, amazed at how much more Imogen seems to understand these last few weeks. Just like that as well! She is also bringing back some of her forgotten words (bird, yeah) and has found some new ones as of last night when she repeated "OK" over and over to daddy, told me "NO" loud and clear and attempted to say "teapot". She's putting my phone/remote control/toy phone to her ear and saying "dada" or "nana", followed by "bye bye". If I say cup of tea, she brings me her play teacups, and shes trying to put her socks on, and pulls mine off and tries to get them back on. She can find her cup when I ask, and her taggy blanket, and her "lambie" (soft sheep toy) She's taken a few unaided steps too :happydance:
I've also found that even though she's teething and trying to walk, she's napping really well (night time sleep has always been great but naps we have struggled with) and most days she's eating much better too!

Can't wait to see whats next!

Havent been on here much recently been so busy but this is the first post ive read and its so true!

Since lo has turned 1 it has been a whirlwind of developments. I was beginning to think she was never going to have teeth, never walk, never try to talk etc etc but now its all fallen into place.

She loves walking around the house now she has a much better grip of it and stops in front of you and just grins a huge grin as if to say 'check me out arent i clever'!! :haha:
Also trying so hard with her words and can almost say 'duck', dog and cow! Was trying fish for a while too but thats gone just now. She loves posting things too, put her toys and things through the bars in the safety gate and through the dogs crate wires too! lol.

So much more like a wee person than a baby now and i cant wait for the summer so we can get out and about properly and show her loads more things when she is that little bit older and more able!!

:happydance::happydance:

Sophie is getting super goofy too! She does this funny walk where she keeps one arm behind her and the other swings rather violently. She also teases us and runs away...walks backwards and hides etc.

She loves climbing right now. She also loves rolling around on pillows and being a goofball. She will climb on the couch, slouch in a corner with her tummy hanging out and pat and rub it while pulling hilarious faces.

Her understanding of what people are saying is really improving.

She loves cuddling, high-fiving, clapping and throwing balls.

This is a really cool age. I remember 13-15 months being wonderful with my son.
