Sudden weaning at a year while pregnant. Something funny is up.

My son is 12.5 months old and I'm 11.5 weeks pregnant.

Last night, he refused his bedtime breastmilk for the first time. He usually drinks at 5:30am, and he refused that too.

What the heck? He doesn't seem sick, although he's been crankier than normal for a couple days. He refused his morning nap for the first time yesterday too. He's probably teething, but he's still eating and drinking water from his sippy cup. Could he suddenly be weaning on his own terms? Could it be that my milk is changing to colostrum already? Could it be the teething, but why is he still eating other things?

I haven't decided if I should pump or not. I know it's not my choice, but I'm not ready for weaning!

What do you think?

I haven't got any good advice buti remember my son started to refuse feeds at about 15 month old when I was 3 months pregnant. However I didn't mind at this point so we came to an end. Hopefully you get some good advice. May just bea temporary nursing strike

Your supply is probably tanking because of the pregnancy, its hormonaly driven so nothing really can be done.

Hormonal fluctuations with the pregnancy could be changing the taste of your milk (as well as supply). I don't necessarily think it will be any better if you pump. Keep trying in case it was an off day for him but sorry to say it might be over .

DS2 self-weaned at 15mths and wasn't ready for it as DS1 weaned a day before his 2nd birthday. Some babies just do it earlier than others.

My son also self weaned at 14 months. I wasn't pregnant. It was similar to what you describe, he just lost interest in nursing, seemingly out of the blue. He's now three and thriving.

Both of my big boys self-weaned during the following pregnancy, one at 1.5 yrs old, the other at 3.5 yrs old (my milk dried up). Not much you can do... Remember that soon enough you will have another boobie monster.
