Hi ladies. My lo is 3 months and all of a sudden she keeps refusing the right breast. It started happening a couple weeks ago after I had a blocked duct in Both breasts. The past few days she has been taking it every now and then but this morning she is back to screaming when I try and offer that side. I'm worried it a gonna affect my supply in that boob! And I've lost my flipping charger for my pump so can't pump it right now and it a huge!

Will she not take it after she has had the other one first? I had a significant difference in flow speed and supply, and for a while DS would ONLY take the fast one at first, but would switch to the slower one when not "starving" hungry anymore.

I only say this because it happened to me and I'm sure it is unlikely in your case...but does you LO by any chance have a stuffy nose? I was really worried about my LO refusing my left side for seemingly no reason and was becoming engorged And feeling like blocked ducts were coming on because of it. Turned out that the one side of her nose was plugged so she couldn't breathe properly on one side. I tried the football hold and she did a bit better until her nose cleared up. Just a thought!

She will refuse it before and after the other one. Did actually get her to take it in the end yesterday, I had a bath and hand expressed a bit then as I got out the bath she woke so I offered her the right side and she drained the boob! She went back to refusing it after that though :/

She does actually have a stuffy nose right now! But I did try the rugby hold thinking she may have a sore ear or something and she still refused!

Have you tried saline drops or a nasal aspirator to help clear the stuffiness? Worth a try, anyway. Too bad she won't do a different position!

Interesting that she fed well after expressing a bit. Have you tried that trick again?

I started doing the football hold on the side baby refused and it tricked him into thinking he was being held in the position that he's held in with the side he liked.

My friend "snapped" her daughter out of it by whacking honey on the unliked nipple. Honey before 12 months is really bad and csn cause botulism so I don't recommend honey but something sweet and sticky should do.

She seems to be taking it a little more today thankfully! Not tried any drops or anything but if it doesn't get any better I will do. I've been offering her the right breast first at every feed today and she will take it that way and then go on to the other one but strangely if I do it the other way round she will refuse the right one :dohh:

I don't think this would work as she seems to hate anything that isn't breastmilk, she's had calpol after her jabs and screamed at me and spat it out, i thought she'd like it! Haha

My lo went through a stage of this! The breastfeeding support women said to try getting milk on the end before offering him it and different positions. I found that laying down with him helped alot. Also to just keep trying for 10 to 15 mins... He gave in after about 7 but he soon stopped being picky and loves both again now

Glad to hear it got better for you! Did you find out why he was doing it?

She said they can just prefer one to the other at times but not to give up! I think the flow might have been different on the favorite boob but I'm not really sure, I did wonder if it was just how I was holding him on that side that he didn't like.

Oh I forgot, she also told me when he's in position but was fussing, to let him suck my finger to get him started then try and get him to latch
