sudocrem after every nappy change??

Popping over from third tri with a question.
Me & my mom were talking today & she said how after every nappy change she would put cream onto me and my brother to prevent rash's etc.
I said that i will probably do that too but mentioned how my friend didn't.
I asked my friend today & she said people no longer do that or she hasn't been advised too etc ..

Is there a reason it's no longer done?
Is it still safe to do it?

I dont think that theres anything necessarily wrong with using it often (though I dont know what sudocream is, Im guessing its like a Desitin like a white diaper cream), but if it were me Id first see how baby's bum reacted. It may be fine without a bunch of cream in which case its not needed.

I know you didnt ask this but this is part of why I have chosen to use cloth - no need to slather baby's bum with stuff to treat or to prevent reactions

It is like a thick white cream used to prevent nappy rash etc.
& I did consider cloth but for me theyre just not pratical. In the future if i had another child i will definitely consider it again.

I put sudocrem on at every nappy change apart from the last one before bed - I put Vaseline on instead and *touch wood* he hasn't had nappy rash yet !

When LO was newborn I used Sodocrem at every nappy change (just like my mum did with me). Now I use Sudocrem only if he looks even the slightest bit red/pink in a crease and for every nappy change I use a cheaper and thinner/less chemically bum cream.

I agree, I don't think there's really anything wrong with it, just probably not necesessary. Sudocrem is quite a heavy barrier cream. I use it when LO starts to get a bit of redness but stop when it's healed. It works well but is just rather thick and tends to get stuck in her creases. For day-to-day use I prefer Bepanthen, it's not so heavy.

Some babies are more prone to nappy rash than others. We never had it with DD until we started weaning, and she just gets red bum now and then. I don't use a barrier cream at every change, usually just overnight or if we're going out for the day. You might just see how your LO gets on at first and find out what works for you.

I prefer to use Bepathen sp? I use that after every nappy change on my little girl as I heard it also helps prevent nappy rash.

I use bepanthen at every change through the day, and paw paw ointment at bed time.

Haven't had the slightest rash yet.
She has super sensitive skin, so I'm not willing to risk it.

No only if she gets sore. If you don't get all the cream off after the next nappy change it can make nappy rash worse because it provides more places for the bacteria to live.

Also baby's skin is so sensitive you don't want to put something on that's not needed, it also saves you money. I think in 18 months she's had nappy rash twice but I found lush's miracle balm better than sudocrem.

Sudocrem is a heavy cream, and needs to be use sparingly. So really it should be used only when need(if baby is red) The skin struggles to breathe with Sudocrem, and struggles to heal, so a light smear (you shouldnt be able to see the white) should be all thats needed.

Thats why tattooists dont recommend sudocreme, rather bepathen or something lighter

Hi hun, I only use sudacrem when my two have nappy rash as I don't want their bodies to get immune to it. Or I use bepanthen, again only if needed. Otherwise if wipe their bums and let them air off and nappy back on.

No theres no need and their skin needs to protect its self.if she is really sore of has been sweating in the day and her rollies are sore i put i tiny amount on before bed

What others have said - sudocreme is really heavy. I use CJ's BUTTer if I feel that my kids' skin is getting at all red. Not only is it natural ingredients which smell delicious, but it's light and safe to use with cloth and disposable nappies alike. Just wanted to point out that cloth bummed babies can get rash too, it's not just disposables which lead to rash.

Nappy-free time is great for helping to prevent nappy rash

I use good old fashioned zinc n castor oil from boots afer daytime changes and every day metanium for the nighttime nappy. If he gets sore we switch to yellow metanium until better. I use sudocream for sore skin bits on his body works wonders x

I use sudocream after every nappy change. I like the idea of a barrier between her and her poo/wee. My sister does the same with her 15month old and both girls have never had a red bum.

Same here! I stopped with the sudocrem around 3 months and just do it occasionally now but i still put vaseline on her every night before bed once she is dry after her bath. I give her nappy off time every day and im sure this helps prevent nappy rash, although my LO has recently started to crawl and wants to constantly stand up, so will be investing in some waterproof sheeting as we speak

i used boots zinc and castor oil after every change and only used sudocrem if her bum looked a little sore its quite a thick heavy cream so wouldnt use it every change as shes got older i just put zinc and castor on morning and bedtime x

I use sudacream every nappy change, not lots just a tidge. She's never had a sore bum, and personally feel prevention is better than the cure. But I may try bepanthen once my sudo tub has run out if it's lighter.

Its up to you of you use it after every nappy change ... But you don't need to, my lo has only ever gotten nappy rash when teething ... So I use it then, never any other time
