sudocrem after every nappy change??

In my last ward i worked in the tissue viability nurse told us not to use sudocrem on any of the patients (a lot of bedbound elderly people with dementia and double incontinence) for various reasons - bacteria specific to sudocrem can breed, it affects the absorbancy of the nappy and can acutally cause nappy rash......so i never used anything lol, wasnt sure what else to use! But my wee ones never had nappy rash at all so....i've never really had to research nappy creams...

We were told at antenatal to avoid Sudocrem if using disposables as it stops the nappy absorbing as it should.

We use Bepanthen, but only when necessary which is rarely.

Yup thats what T.V nurse said, stopped nappies absorbing so the pee soaked into the skin, mixed with the sudocrem and made the skin all permeable and stuff (i forget all the technicall bits  it was about 2 years ago now!)
I have a tube of bepanthen "just in case" and also because i was advised to get it to put over my tattoo just after i had it done - to minimise scabbing etc
but never had to use it.

We don't, J had a mild nappy rash a few months ago, we used Metanium cream and it cleared up within a day :) xxx

Think I will put some sort of nappy cream on just as thats what I kniw to do with my famoly & ohs family doibg this, definately not sudocrem though x

Honestly, usually i use nothing, she had nappy rash once, we tried every cream with no result, eventually we changed her nappy brand and shes been fine since. On a hot day a little vasaline can go a long time, washing her in just water if shes had a paticuarly bad poo and nappy free time are so so effective and IMO better than putting on chemicals :)

Thankyou.
With this LO being my first child i am just going to see what suits us best etc.
But grateful for all the advice off everyone x

I refuse to use Sudocrem at all. i use bepanthen or conotrane which is what all the continence nurses use on adults. i use a tiny bit after each nappy change (we have lots of nappy-free times too) and if he gets a rash then we put a bit more on the area that looks sore.
