The first xmas i had with adam i got my nana to order a turkey from the butcher for me and she paid for it for me (i gave her the money when she gave it to me)

BUT the last two years i bought one from asda.

I honestly cant remember how much i paid for my turkeys any year.

SO which is best and value for money??

butcher or supermarket?

i also dont know what size i would order from butchers, its to cook for 5 people but want plenty of leftovers from it?? any idea??

im useless at this type of thing :haha:

We always get it from the supermarket but i have no idea how much it costs from the butcher so couldn't say which is cheaper. Ours is usually about £12 - £15 though x

yer i think mine was about £18 from asda

Generally butchers are well worth a trip they do better meat at better prices, which surprised me! We save a fortune by stocking up and freezing meat they'll do like goody bags for £20.. I haven't tried but because of this would recommend their turkey!

I brought mine from the butcher last year..it was a 5lb turkey crown,it cost about £17 and we had to throw half away there was that much left!!xx

we usually get it from asda but weve recently started going down to our local butchers and the quality of the meat is waaaay better than say Asda its also cheaper so i think wel be getting ours from the butcher this year

hmmmmmm donna??
how many of you was there that ate the turkey? i just dont know anything about weight?
yer my butchers is nice too, i bought sausages from there last week and the butcher said they were 80% meat content and they were so yummy and cheaper than the walls we usually buy (60% meat)

hmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe i should order a 5IB-er!!!

how early dya have to order it and dya usually pay a deposit?

I vote butcher usually cheaper or same price as supermarket and much better quality. My butcher is taking turkey orders now and you can pay a bit each week or pay when you collect it. I usually order a turkey crown the same weight in pounds as there are people and then theres enough left for sandwiches and curry

I get mine from the butchers and it around £40-£45

I find it easier to cook a turkey from the butchers !!! lol

I usually get a turkey crown for the butchers, it costs about £40-£45 and would do Christmas day dinner, Christmas night sandwiches and Boxing day dinner and that is for 4 of us, but we all LOVE turkey and heap our plates high both days !!! lol

I get mine from sainsburys the bernard mathews one and I get 6lb one for 5 of us as we like leftovers for sandwiches xx

we m&s ours. last years was about £40.

This year ours will be from the butcher, we usually pay £14 for a huge turkey crown.
Next year we will be growing, killing and cooking our own turkeys for family/friends!

we go to the butchers for all of our meat,
its much cheaper and much better quality :)

hmmmmmmmmmmm i dunno what to do because its not like i can go into the butchers and have a look at the sizes because obviously they dont have em yet! lol

If you go to the butchers and tell them how many people and you want leftovers etc they will recommend you the weight, butchers are really good like that!! Last year I got a Bernard Matthews one from Tesco half price for £15 and I think it was just as nice as the butchers one for £25 the year before!! I love turkey sandwiches Xmas Eve!!!

My dads a chef and always gets ours fresh from the butcher.
