I gave birth last week and my milk supply has begun to dry up, I have been a bit stressed so I know that will have contributed. I have been breast feeding and was literally dripping on my son, and now I am lucky to squeeze out a few drops. i have expressing to try and get the supply up and have been getting 20 ml if I am lucky out of the 2 boobs put together
any tips or advice?
have been making sure I put oliver on the breast in the hope that will help increase supply.
Oh also I am still in the hospital after giving birth, he was 34 weeks on delivery.
thanks in advance

It's normal for you to have an overabundance of milk when it comes in, then for it to adjust to the demands put upon it.
Stress can have an effect on milk, so when nursing just try to relax and clear your mind if you can.
Is your baby having plenty of wet/dirty nappies and gaining weight? If so your supply is probably fine and your body has just adjusted to the point you don't leak. If not, breast feed and then pump after your baby has a feed, even if nothing comes out.

ETA if you are needing to supplement with EBM/formula I highly highly recommend a SNS or Lactaid to anyone who wants to increase milk supply and has a baby that can latch on. Babies are way better than pumps.

Is your LO having tube feeds/cup feeds? Is your baby in special care? I used to work in SCBU and there was something the docs could prescribe which helped milk supply as a side effect but I cant remember what it was. Have you asked the SCBU nurses/midwives for ideas? You could try expressing right after you have fed him so that the hormones are still high. I know we used to advise expressing between 1 and 5 am (horrible I know) becasue its the night feeds that have the biggest effect on your hormones. Try not to worry, if you still have a little milk you can still get your supply back up again. :hugs:

The best way to increase your supply is nursing often, max every 2 1/2 hours, if you can't, pump every 3 hours.
Fenugreek helps a lot, take 3, three times a day.
Maybe your baby is not nursing correctly, ask a lactation consultant in the hospital.
GOOD LUCK!!!

he is having wet and dirty nappies, but has only lost weight, he is 10 days old now and due his next weigh in tomorrrow, we are still in the hospital. Do you mean fungreek seeds? do I just eat them whole? I will look into this! thanks
