Sure start maternity grant and tax credits?

Hello,

I applied for both tax credits and sure start grant yesterday, there was an option on the grant form that said something like 'tick if your waiting to hear back from tax credits'.. however after a google search ive seen that people who ticked that just get a letter saying they've been rejected, even though they qualify for the maximum tax credits. Just wondering if anyone applied for the grant before they were receiving tax credits? what was the outcome? did you have to send your notice into them or are they govt and therefore can check on there system. I sent the tax credits of by special and its been received today, the grant is 2nd class so wont arrive till Monday, although i doubt anythings going to be done with tax credits today for anything to show up on there system.

Also, how long can i expect to hear back from tax credits?

It took about 2-3 weeks for them to reply to me about tax credits, and even then i had to ring them and change some details. The money went in quite quickly though, few days before they sent me a letter confirming i'd get it!
I had the same problem as you, so i waited until they got back to me about tax credits before i sent off the sure start grant application xx

By reply do you mean send you your award notice? or just inform you that you'd get it? x
