This is going to sound really childish but... I have a sweep tomorro and I was wondering will she 'look' down there? Or do they cover you over a bit and just pop their hand under and feel?

I don't even know why I care :dohh: I know labour will be undignified but suddenly feel all shy and awkward just thinking about it - just over a little sweep!

And where will she do it, do you lie on the bed with her at one end? How long does the whole thing take from pants off to the examination being over?

 Thanks girls :flower:

I had mine yesterday, I;m 39+4 weeks and have had false labour for the last 2 weeks and wanted to put an end to the waiting. I didnt realise how "personal" it is and almost backed out and told my MW I had changed my mind!

I had both my MW and her trainee do my sweep. It was done in my bedroom; I have double aspect windows so it is extremely bright in my room- even my husband doesnt get to go down there in such bright light! I had to lie down on the bed on top of a towel, take off my pants off, bring my heels together so that my knees were facing outwards and then the trainee (sorry, tmi, but hey ho!)put on her latex gloves and put her finger up me with the MW looking directly "in there".
The procedure itself is fine and was a lot less uncomfortable than when I have had (male) doctors check up on my cervix earlier in my pregnancy- also the MW and her trainee were pretty chilled that I havent waxed down there in 9 months, so that took away at least some of the embarrassment! The whole thing was less than 5 mins but felt more like 15!
Good luck with your sweep- unfortunately I havent had any contractions today- so will have to have another sweep next Tues when presumably I will be 3 days overdue.... I am so not looking forward to it!

it wasnt too bad for me- it is very similar to a pap-smear- you get in the same position and they examine and insert their fingers- yes she will be looking down there...but i didnt think it was as bad as when i went into labor and the room filled with nurses and the pediatrician and everyone was watching the baby crowning. So hopefully your modesty dissolves a bit because there's nothing you can do to be modest during birth

I'm pretty sure she's going to look because she has to be able to see what she's doing and where her fingers are going.

I've had shy bouts before, but then I have to remind myself that they've seen SOOOO many and I'm sure to them, mine is just one of many and I assume after awhile, they all start to look the same. Hopefully mine wasn't the ugliest they've seen though!
