So I'm thinking of starting to go swimming a few times a week, nothing heavy just some light swimming, does anyone else swim? Has it made a difference? My midwife said it will help with my lovely swollen ankles and feet and will also help me to feel better. I think I will give it a go while I have the energy!

I've been trying to get once or twice a week and it's great. I'm not a strong swimmer but do enjoy it especially now I'm further on. Going up hills and stairs gets me out of breath but I can swim for longer I think because of the position. I find it really relaxing. Give it a go and see how you feel

I've always been a swimmer and love it but I especially love it when pregnant. Great exercise but nice and gentle. I've found it works wonders for my back pain x

Went swimming last week, and helped my back sooo much

I'm thinking of starting swimming too. I'm really bad at it which puts me off but I'm a runner and need to find something else to do when I can no longer run. Gonna start with a few laps when we take dd swimming tomorrow and see how it goes.

I've swam through 3 of my 4 previous pregnancies, and am swimming as much as I can (which is only about once a week, sadly) during this one. The buoyancy of the water really helps relieve pressure and alleviate the swelling. Activity is good for you and the baby, and swimming is probably one of the best.

I'd like to say that my deliveries were made easier by swimming, but since it was my first that I didn't swim much during, it's hard to say if it's because of the swimming or just that they were later births. Still, it doesn't hurt!

Yup I find swimming great exercise :)

Swimming is really, really good and I would do it more if we had our own pool. I swim at the local gym 3 times a week. A gentle 45 minute swim is exercise at any rate but now all of the added benefits it has for your pregnant body make it definitely worth taking up. Just make sure you keep your liquids up too.

Thanks everyone, swimming Definetly sounds like it will do me good and if it helps with the back pain and swelling then that's an added bonus! I plan on going Tuesday evening. :)
