I switched from SMA regular milk to Aptimal hungry baby milk on recommendations made by the HV and I don't see a change in his eating habits.

He drinks 5 oz every 3 hours on average (he's a demand feed baby).
At the end of the day, he has still had 24-30oz as before

Anybody else experienced this, am I doing something wrong?

hehe i came to ask exactly the same question so hopefully some one has answers, i am BF and Formula feeding (BF is for his comfort and 'snacks' lol and he still has all formula bottles for feeds).. i was giving him normal aptimal but changed to hungry baby and he still has 5oz and wants it every 3-4 hrs and sometimes is still looking for more food so i BF him until he is happy or give him another ounce or so...is he having far too much? he was a big baby, 9pounds at birth and at nearly 4 weeks is now 10pound 9 ounces xxx

Why did you want to switch in the first place? 3 hours between feeds is pretty good for 1 month old, my 9 weeks old still feeds on demand too andsometimes it could be 1.5 hours or 3-4 hrs in between. She sleeps then from 7 pm till 4 am. Hv said that's how they make sure they are getting enough for a longer sleep at night...
I was tempted a few times to switch, but persevered as so early in life thay tend to have growth spurts often xx

to be honest hun 3 hours is really good, Jayden fed 1.5-2 hours day and night up until 8 weeks or so, and that was on hungry baby milk too xx he drank around 60-70oz a day by 10 week x

It took a week for my LO to adjust on the Hungry Hipp-she started to wake every two hors to feed in the night and would guzzle 6oz each time. After a week of hungry milk she is sleeping through again (7hrs ish).

I said 5oz on average every 3 hours..not that he'll take 5oz at 3 hour intervals, he can take his bottle every hour sometimes.
I switched because at 3 and a half weeks he was over 11lb and he was constipated a lot so my HV suggested switching to aptimal because it's softer and hungry baby because of his size as everyday he was wanting more..this wanting more hasn't seemed to calm down.

Thank you tu123, ~I guess I just haven't given him much time to adjust! :)

my LO is 4 weeks and he is on SMA yellow cap during the day and SMA blue cap (extra hungry baby milk) during the night times. He feeds on demand and this can vary from 2 hours to 4. He hasn't settled into a sleeping routine yet or a feeding routine and he has between 120 ml - 180ml, mostly 180ml when he goes 3/4 hours. I switched to the Blue cap because he just didn't seem to settle at all and he is always hungry!

Can i ask, did you switch to the hungry baby milk for every feed or just the night time? We have only been doing this for a few days now and i haven't seen much improvement but i think i need to give it a few weeks maybe? My LO is also constipated and i have to give him water every day to help him; do you think Aptimal is better than SMA?

xx

Personally, i dont see how that is hungry? Seems normal to me

We are having the same sort of problem! My LO is ten weeks and is feeding every 2.5-3 hours, last week we started him on cow and gate stage 2 at night first off and did not make one bit of difference. Now we have started giving him it for all feeds and we cant see a difference in this either. I spoke to the health visitor about it, and she said that sometimes it doesnt make a difference?! So other than just plod on, does anyone have any other ideas/advice?
He usually takes between 4 and 7oz each feed and was born at 36 weeks!

Could your baby be thirsty? Maybe you could offer water first and if that doesn't satisfy LO then offer milk, we have been doing this to stretch bub from 3 to 4 hours and it seems to be working.

my boy at that age probably had alot more than that, and now at 12 weeks feeds every 3 hours and has between 6 and 7 ozs a bottle, he'll have about 7 or 8 in a day. I've been told its too much, I'm trying hungry baby formula again hoping it will help. I started last night, he went 8 hours straight sleeping last night, then went 4 hours before another bottle, and we are currently coming up to another 4 hours. This is totally unheard of so im hoping its working.

I have a big baby, he's not fat, not at all, he is long, at 8 weeks he was in the 98th percentile for his height, I wouldn't be surprised if thats gone up now cos he's so tall.

All babies are different, if your baby is hungry he has to be fed. I've always fed mine on demand, thats what we are told to do and I dont see that I could have done anything differently. Yes perhaps its alot of formula, but some babies need it.

The hvs have advised me to wean him early, they were tempted to get me to start now but now say to hold out til 16 weeks. The reason they want me to wean early is because he is going up and up the centile chart, and if he carries on guzzling like he has been then he'll go off the chart.

If you want to try and decresae the amount your baby feeds then try water inbetween feeds and perhaps a dummy. I'm using SMA extra hungry baby formula.

Ok so I understand that not all of you thinks that he is hungry but I know my baby and I know that he isn't satisfied. Since I first made this post he has started taking 7oz every 2 hours. He is in the 97th centile now.
I give him water and that doesn't make much difference.
He has hungry baby milk for every feed.

Kellymomma, my HV told me that SMA would help ease his constipation as it was softer and it did :D

I just want my boy to be happy, not to basically be told I am overreacting.

I've been told so many times that my baby is feeding far too much, but being told that doesn't change how much he feeds, or make him less hungry.

If you overfed him he would sick it back up!!

If you are worried though talk to your hv. I think some people on here dont realise that their comments aren't very useful, just cos their babies dont eat alot doesnt mean yours doesn't.

Well all we have told you is what is pretty normal, if you don't like the advice then see your HV.

This is very reassuring thank you :)
I tried a dummy, he just won't take it though :dohh:

Thank you to everyone else too!! :)
