I was in a car crash nearly two weeks ago, and since then i have been suffering really bad with SPD, its that bad i often feel like am in labour as the pains remind me of mild contractions. for the last week it has been that bad i cant move out of bed, i have a 5 year old and a house to maintain so all this time in bed isnt good. I feel like when i go the doctors or the hospital i am banging my head on a wall, as they are telling me there is nothing they can do until my pshyotherphy starts on thre 19th may!!!! the problem there is i would have been waiting 5 weeks, and will only have 4 weeks left. They cant give me any more codine and they have given me a tubicrip to wear. Has anyone ever suffered with this before, if so can you give me some advice please, i cant deal with this pain any more. my hips groin pelvis and back are aching.

Thanks xx

sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I had spd with my last 2 pregnancies and have just found out that I'm expecting again so will no doubt have it again before long . The best things you can do are to take it easy(easier said than done I know). Keep you legs together when getting in and out of cars. When getting onto bed do it with your legs together and together again before you get off. Know your limits for pain tolerance when your legs are apart and NEVER exceed that. I didn't find tubee grips much use but you could try a support belt. If you know anyone with a pair of crutches beg, borrow or steal them- mine were a god send. If you can't get access to a hydro pool go and have a wallow in the kiddies pool(it's a lot warmer) and just float around. Other than that harass your midwife for an emergency appointment. The physios always have them and should see you within a week.
Hope this is some help. On the bright side spd did seem to make the births quicker for me-just over an hour- because pelvis had already seperated. Again, you should take precautions with your movements in labour but physio will go through that. Finally spd pain is related to pregnancy hormones, so if you plan to breast feed it will last until you stop. I bottle fed and the pain only lasted a few days after the birth then it was right as rain.
Wishing you all the best xxx

Thank you for your reply, its helped alot. The hospital just thought of sent me away knowing nothing and said your appointment for pysho will arrive in the post.

I didnt suffer with it during my first, but they think with having the car crash my body has started to produce to much of the relaxin hormone :( its so painful how did you manage twice? i keep saying if this was my first pregnancy i would never do it again lol. xxx

i have SPD and this is my 3rd pregnancy with it. great advice from 'forget me not' painkillers don't touch me so i don't even both taking them! keep nagging your midwife they will have to get you an appointment sooner than what you have thats just ridiculas!
I have been given a support belt and a set of crutches for my bad days!
good luck

I think so long has passed since my last baby I am blocking out it happening again! I managed twice cos my midwife was ace and I had physio and hydro therapy from about 20 weeks. She has said to me that as soon as I get a twinge with this one they will get me straight back there. I am actually seeing physio at the mom for a torn ligament in my knee. It had almost healed but I'm getting twinges in it again so I am going to have to ask if relain hormone is going to agrivate it:growlmad:That would be just my luck!!
Has your midwife not been very helpful with it? They are usually are lot more clued up about it than A&E docs.
Take care xx:kiss:

i had a letter through today saying i was being referred for hydrotherapy!I know its in the pool but what kind of stuff do they do with you?

The midwife at the hospital was good, didnt tell me all that much. The doctor passed me up and sent me home saying i dont no what the pain is. It was the midwife who was discharging me who mentioned it, was shocked to how long i have to wait for the physio :(
I have been takin codine they do nothing for the pain but do put me to sleep lol if i didnt have them i would be up 24/7 with the pain. through the night the pain in my groin has got worse and i also get a nurve pain going from the top of my leg to the very bottom, i feel like i cant move my leg when i get that pain :(

I hope everything goes ok for you xxxx

Hydro therapy was lots of gentle movements. I had to walk around in the water and float on my stomach using a long polystyrene tube for support. They will tailor your movements to what you can manage and you will do repetitions to build up your strength. It's quite relaxing while you in the water but word of warning- I could barely walk when I first got out! You have to sit down for half hour of so afterwards just to rest and get over the shock to your system. It'll take an hour or so for you to feel the benfits and at first you will wish you never bothered! Persevere though, it reallly is worth it xx

I just got diagnosed with this on the weekend, and am going to have to go to my doctor to get a referral for physiotherapy.

One really great resource I found was at https://www.acpwh.org.uk/docs/ACPWH-PGP_Pat.pdf. It does a lot of explaining and answered a lot of my questions.

sam&ladies,

I completely empathise i have had spd on all three, and now have pain at only 6weeks on my fourth.

I was born with congenital hip dysplasia, and concequently have arthritis in my left hip also, which leaves me unable at times to look after and play with my babies, but i have alot of support from friends and family. Do ya have a good support network?

My physio referred me to hydrotherapy, the warm water is an amazing relief, and the exercies stregthen ur core stability which will make things easier in labour. I managed to deliver all of mine svd despite my pubic bone seperating noticeably. (i can put my finger between two sides!) Also i do yoga when i can with a specialist teacher. (make sure they are accredited)

Currently i am registered disabled because of sacro illiac, and spd&arthritis, and i understand how down it can make you BUT things will get easier, once you get to a physio who can advise ya. Dont let it take over&sometime the benefits of pain relief outway the risks hun! You will get through this. Make sure you let ppl around you take over with lo.

Feel free to message me at anytime if ya want info regarding treatments or more details
Take care x x x x x

Thanks for your reply. i dont really have much of a support network, my partner is great and his mum really helps out when she can (she works nights) but other than that its me and my little girl, am really gutted as my mum wanted me to have another one and am shocked she doesnt help out more, spesh as my little girl is so demanding as she is disabled, she is currently in remission for a rare and aggersive form off cancer and its hard work as there is so many side effects, like her deafness, learning problems, aches and pains in her bones, also my house has to be clean 24/7 because of her immune systeam. am just getting on with it, but its so hard to get on with it when all you want to do it curl up and cry as the pain is that bad. it keeps me awake at night . when i stand up i feel like some one is hitting my pubic bone with a brick, and my hips groin and lower stomach just ache 24/7 :( and to top if of the doctor said i cant have any more codine have had what i can have :(

how did you cope? ive only got 6 weeks left now which is great i just dont understamd why its tuk them so long to get me into phyiso, am finally going on wednesday :) woooo

Hi sam,
Its great that you have a supportive partner, as you really need one with this condition dont you! I know what you mean with regards to grandparents, my mum&dad think they do everything for us when infact they prob babysit once every few months, and they make us feel a bit like we are pressuring them even then! We hardly ever see my oh mum.....long story. So at times it is more than difficult at times, but we seem to muddle through (you prob know how that feels hun)

I also am not being prescribed anymore codeine as am at limit, plus i think you build up a tolerance the more you take!

During my first preg, i was referred to physio and it took till he was 6weeks old before i was seen! its disgusting, so on my second i paid to see a consultant privately to get pushed along the list....best 100pounds i ever spent! (well not quite but you know what i mean!)

The pain is horrendous hun, and ruins ur life, not to mention pregnancy.......i had a yoga teacher locally that specialised in spd who wud come to my house, although pricey (cud only afford a few sessions) it really helped. This will help postnatally also.

Lots of warm baths, and i also used cura heat pads and wore a pelvic support. You can buy them from mothercare&they are pretty much the same as the ones physio use& i let my partner (bless) take the strain. Try to apply for a blue badge from council hun, you will prob be entitled! atleast you can park for free(in some carparks), and park on double yellows much closer to where you are going to make things easier!!!

Thats fantastic that ur fab little girl is in remmission...i hope she continues to be healthy, altho it must be extremely hard for you with her other dificulties.....It really makes you apprecite lo's when you have something so severe happen. Just wish you were feeling better hun!!! Not long to go tho&things WILL improve x x x x x x

hiya hun, you sound so much like me when it comes to my mum and dad lol. for the first 2 years i think they forgot they had a grandchild, yet make out to te world they are great.... makes you sooo angry lol.

if i had suffered this in my 1st pregnancy i wouldnt have had any more lol, and i was sayin that to my partner last night that i cant enjoy this pregnancy. i really thought i would, as when i was pregnant with emma it was all rush, gettin a house decorating buying things for the baby, it was hard work. so i really thought i would be able to enjoy it this time around but oh no lol. ive got a pelvic support the hozzy give me one of them but some times i feel it doesnt work. we dont have and yoga teachers around here :(

thanks for all your support xxxxxx
