Hi everyone,

I'm probably being paranoid but I just wanted to ask if there is anyone who knows if there are any symptoms of an incompetent cervix?
The reason I am asking is for the last couple of weeks I have been feeling a lot of abdominal pressure/fullness and a 'sensation' around/on my cervix. This is my 1st pregnancy and I do not have any risk factors for having an incompetent cervix but it does trouble me to think that this problem is not routinely screened for in my area.
I have mentioned my concerns to my GP and midwife but they have not really reassured me and have said that it is normal to feel things as the baby grows. They only seem to be concerned with symptoms of spotting or bleeding.
I hope you don't mind me posting my concerns here but I can't think what else my symptoms would be, maybe it is normal to feel this I just don't know.

Your comments would be welcomed. L x

It's always normal to feel pressure down there because of your growing baby

With my first actual live birth, I was sent to a specialist at 4.5 months (had a history of 2 D&Cs performed, which had weakened my cervix). If I hadn't have told my ob/gyn about the previous D&Cs, he probably would have never suggested I go see a specialist. I felt totally normal at the time I saw the specialist. The nurse did an ultrasound and started pressing down on my uterus and saw something which she couldn't tell me herself. The dr had told me that with the pressure, my cervix was opening as much as 3mm(i think it was mm? sorry, 3 years ago). The next day, I was having a cerclage stitched in.

You can get a 2nd opinion to assure yourself and keep at ease.

Good luck to you!
