Okay..here is my story. I went to my OLD OBGYN in October last year and got blood work done and was told I had PCOS....I did not have a period from September to just this July and assumed it was PCOS. I decided I was going to change OBGYN's and went to my new one this week...she actully did an ultrasound and saw that I DO NOT have PCOS and that I just have 2 teeny tiny cysts on my right ovary and none on my left and told me that I had just ovulated a few weeks ago out of my left. She told me to start taking Provera and Prenatals. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck after starting to take Prenatals?

Doctors recommend to start taking prenatals when you are TTC - and the reason I have understood is because in case if you get pregnant growing feutus first two weeks when you would not even know that you are pregnant starts its basic development of spinal cord and it needs specific nutrients and if it does not get it then the baby can have birth defects. Though, this is coming from a person who has been TTC for 9 months without success.

I started taking prenatal vitamins just before I stopped taking BCP. My GP recommended to start taking them as soon as you can as it builds up in your system. She said, ideally, women should start taking them 6mths before getting pregnant, and then for the first 3 months of pregnancy.

I've not really noticed anything since starting them tbh, but it's nice to know that if I do get pregnant, that my little baby will be covered :)

You can have PCOS with no cysts. (I know, right? Misleading!)

But prenatals are important to take while TTC mostly because of folic acid/folate. Neural tube defects are prevented by consuming 800-1000mcg of folate daily during early pregnancy. But if you don't start taking them until you find out you're pregnant, it's often too late for it to do any good.

Plus it's good to help store valuable vitamins and minerals prior to becoming pregnant, because your body gives your nutrients to the baby.

I appreciate the advice.

But, it is NOT possible to have PCOS without cysts. PCOS is polyCYSTICovary syndrome.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Sometimes I feel doctors are so misleading. One tells you one thing....another tells you something else.

I've been taking prenatals for a few months. Just started TTC last week. I wanted to find a brand that didnt make me sick before I attempted anything. Can't hurt right?

I feel like this post is a little rude & completely misinformed. It is entirely possible to have PCOS without having cysts.. I am diagnosed PCOS with no cysts!

There are 3 main criteria to a PCOS diagnosis & you only need to have 2 to be diagnosed. These are:
1. Hormonal imbalance
2. Annovulation
3. Cysts

I have the first two, hence my diagnosis. It is a misleading name, but that's how it is.

There is nothing wrong taking prenatals before you're pregnant. I've been taking them for a year. It has so many benefits for taking them early and they allow your hair & nails to grow faster. :)

Gummies! It's all about the gummies! I tried the pills and they make me sick, the gummies are awesome!

^^^^

I can't swallow pills without having a gagging reflex, so all I take are gummies. They don't make me sick and are yummy too! :)

I started taking prenatals right after we scheduled my DH's vasectomy reversal. I have been taking them daily for almost 18 months now. I don't have PCOS, but I have noticed that I don't get monthly anemia and I feel a wee bit perkier. I also have low Vitamin D levels, and since I switched I have noticed that I don't drop as quickly with the prenatals as I was with the regular women's vitamins.

My doctor recommended it when I went in to make sure that I could conceive before the surgery. Also my GP recommended starting taking them early.

I give prenatal vitamins to my 17 year old. Everyone should take a vitamin so IMO anyone who's of a reproductive age, regardless of if TTC or not, might as well take a prenatal.

I have heard you should be taking folic acid at least 3 months before you conceive, I started taking it about a month and a half ago. What is everyone else taking?

I got off BC June of 2013 to see if my crazy cycles had evened out after my 20s. No luck. I started taking prenatals that day just in case of an accidental pregnancy.
