When did ur lo come out of boots an bars at night.

What has doctors said about coming out at night?

Our lo has been told to come out of at night. He has always taken well to treatment. Our hospital has always done their own version on the ponsetti, ever since we came our of boots and bars in the day he has been wearing orthopaedic shoes. They have told us to keep up with the shoes so its not like there is no support at all.

Thanks x

My daughter was pretty mild, and she's been out of boots and bar since around 1. But she went into a spica cast for her hips at that age, so she couldn't wear the boots. They should have casted her feet at the time as well, to help them hold postition but I begged them not to! Went she got out of her spica, they told us not to bother putting the boots back on as she really was more 'positional' than anything. She's 3 years, 2 months now and there's no sign of any regression in her feet. I feel if we get past 4 years without any problems, then we're home free :) Oh, and she also wears regular shoes during the day, although I make her take them off inside the house as much as possible. She's got bad ankles and arches, but they seem to be improving.

Thank you alias, I believe u have answered a talipes question for me in the past lol. I guess I worried a little as I swear I read somewhere the rates for regression are pretty high the younger they are. I did mention it to the doc and he said he will check them in 3 months just in case. They have always done so well with his feet so I don't see a reason why they would take them off. They told us to wear the shoes but he only really wears them when he's out we do keep on them on for a bit in the house but not all the time. And defo not at nap time.
The spica cast must of been awful for her! Lo had the hip brace when he was a newborn on top of his casts j remember that not being a fun time!

Thank you x

When her hip was diagnosed and she went into the spica (11 months) I remember thinking 'and I thought those little talipes casts were hard! They were a walk in the park compared to this!' So yeah, not fun. But we're through it and she's doing great.

You're right, reccurance is higher the sooner the boots and bar come off. And (my opinion) the more work it takes to correct the feet, the longer they should stay on probably. But with my daughter, the more I read about it the more I came to believe that casting was overtreatment with her, and we should have tried massage first. I am pretty sure hers was positional, she was breech the whole way along due to a full placenta previa. It caused her hip problem as well. There were no noticable signs of talipes at her 20 week scan. So I was willing to give life without boots a shot, but I still keep an eye on her and watch her walk carefully! She's got her annual checkup next month, so we'll see what they say then.

See Ethan's was bilateral and on the more severe side. He also had the tenotomy (according to the consultant who is head of department they don't do it that often in mk but it was necessary for him as is on foot was really stiff) I have always been thankful because Ethan's feet have taken so well to treatment. They even had pictures taken of them. I always think his talipes is genetic. It's just an inkling as I have absolutely awful feet. It was picked up at 20 weeks and hips after birth.

I remember seeing a child with the spica brace on when lo had his tenotomy and I remembered thinking how awful for the child and how lucky we were that Los hips were so easily corrected (6 weeks) at such a young age with just the brace. Glad u are at the other end! X
