Talk to me about keeping your babies warm at night

We've always bedshared and I'm used to having baby plastered to me. He's lost interest in cuddling, so I'm side-carring a cosleeper to help prevent my movements from bothering him. How do you dress a baby who isn't cuddled to keep them warm? It's about 67-69 in the room at night.

I put my DD in a vest, a sleep suit and a 2.5 tog grobag but our room is about 16-17 degrees celcius (I don't know how to convert it but I just looked up 68 F and it said 20 C)

What material sleepsuit? And can someone explain togs? I've never seen an american product labelled with a tog. I'm mostly worried about overdressing him. My kids are furnaces, but I'm constantly freezing.

I just put ds in a fuzzy/fleece footie one piece pj

I never had to worry about that with Violet. When she was small, I'd even have her pants off to keep her from over-heating. Now that she's a toddler, I make sure to put pants on her so that if she moves from under the blanket, she at least has SOMETHING on her. With a baby though? I guess I'd try one of those sleeping bag things and check to make sure the baby isn't sweating or cold.

68F isn't cold so I wouldn't overly worrt about it.

Personally I really don't like fleece sleep suits/pj's as it is not a breathable fabric so it's easy for baby to overheat.

Best to use some kind of cotton sleepsuit/pj's and add layers as you feel are required. I love sleeping bags. We are in San Diego and our room tends to be around 68F at night. Little one sleeps in a cotton footed sleepsuit and a thinish (summer weight) cotton sleeping bag. Occasionally if I feel he is hot during the night I will open the bag to vent it or if he's cold I will add a cotton sheet over him.

Our room is 17-18C overnight, so going off PP, slightly colder than yours. We use a cotton sleepsuit that has built in scratch mitts, so I can turn these over and keep her hands warm in the night. I know they say cold hands aren't an issue if the rest of the baby is warm but her little hands were like ice blocks without the mitts being turned over them. Then we use a sleeping bag, also a 2.5 tog, but I don't know how to explain togs, it's just a rating that's used in the UK. It's a warm sleeping bag for a baby.

I also cover her with a blanket, depending on how she feels when I stick my hands down her neck. The blanket often gets kicked off though, so I try to make sure she's not relying on this for warmth.

Definitely look into the sleeping bags, they're so practical!

When mine was an infant I put her in a one piece sleep and play and then used a sleeping bag (like the halo sleep sack).

What age/milestone do you stop using sleep sacks?

Minties-- see that's what I'm concerned about. Since I had my first, anything under 75F is sweater weather and requires an electric blanket to sleep on med-high if I'm not covered in warm bodies...

Isn't it funny how we all view different temperatures depending on where we live/what we're used to. At 75f I'd be wearing a vest and shorts during the day lol. DS2's room is 16c overnight, about 60f. He's in a vest, cotton fleecy sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog grobag. He tends to run cold. DS1's room stays at 20c, 68f and he's in cotton pjs and has a 4.5 tog duvet, he's like a mini radiator all the time though and is usually warm regardless.

My LO is 17m and still in a sleeping bag / sleep sack. Personally I will use them until she's in a normal bed then she can climb out when she needs to and not fall over.

My LO wears a vest, Sleepsuit & 2.5tog bag (thicker than a summer bag)

Personally I would always stick with cotton as a material, never fleece overnight.

Gosh I sound like I'm overdressing Amelia but if I put any less on her she doesn't sleep at the moment! I have no idea what the temperature is as my gro-egg broke, but it is cold! Tonight she's in a short sleeve vest, long sleeve vest, sleepsuit, 2.5 tog sleeping bag and a light blanket on top! She's a normal temperature to touch (although double checking tonight now!!) so I think she's fine.

I have no idea what the temperature in my girls' room is, but Its pretty cold in the winter (about 16/17 id say) and my 16 month old wears a cotton vest and babygro, plus a 2.5tog bag. Sometimes she does wear fleecy jammies and when she does, i dont put a vest on her.
Oh, she also has a thin fleece blanket in her cot too. She doesnt sleep under it but she sometimes snuggles into it

Either a long sleeved cotton onesie and a fleece halo sleep sac, or a fleece footed pajama onesie. Our bedroom goes from 66-69F at night, and I get cold and have to pull up my down comforter....so I would assume LO is cold. The time he's in just a cotton footed sleeper, his hands are like ice and his tummy and legs where cool. So he's in a fleece footed onesie now and nice and toasty. He sleeps like a dream in it. (I get the ones that zip and are by Carters)

Sleeping arrangements are a pain in this house. My husband can only sleep if it's freezing cold and our son is in our bedroom at the moment. We have the radiator on 1 and keep the heat on 15 throughout the night. Baby wears a vest, sleepsuit and blanket (bad mummy). We just make sure his feet are at the bottom of his basket and the blanket is tucked under the mattress so it doesn't come lose if he wriggles

i have my heat set at 70 degrees and she just sleeps with a sleeper. I can't use a blanket because she moves around too much. She sleeps just fine.

I put my baby in a long sleeve onsie and then in a sleep sack, then I put warm socks on her hands (they always get so cold at night)

Our temp is also set around 68-69 during the winter. When mine were babies, during the winter I had them in footie Pjs, and then a sleep sack over it (Halo brand are good). Depends on the child, though. If you notice your son is a little heat-box, you may have to adjust for him. Same for the other way, if you notice he gets cold easily, you may need to layer more with an undershirt under PJs. My kids are kind of total opposites. DS1 was always cold, so I had to dress him pretty warm to keep him toasty enough to stay asleep. DS2 is a little hot box, and to this day, usually flings his blankets on the floor and sleeps on just his sheet. He has one little throw blanket that is his favorite that he allows to tuck him in, but its hit or miss whether he leaves it on. He never wakes up cold during the night, though, so clearly isn't bothering him.

Under 75 is sweater weather? I'm in shorts and a tank top at 75. LOL. amazing how we all view temps so differently.

Gosh, I wish it was that cool in my room! MommyJogger, we use sleep sacks. Halo makes one with legs. We live in Florida though and even though it's A/C'd 24/7 365 it's still hot so DS just has a long sleeve onesie and footie pajamas.
