Does anyone know when you can start using tampons again after a c-section rather than pads? I only had my little girl 10 days ago so it might still be too early, but my blood loss has slowed right down and I find pads soo uncomfortable as I'm just so used to tampons. I've read that you shouldn't use them for up to 6 weeks after a vaginal birth but wasn't sure if it was different for c-section ladies. The midwife is coming friday so I will double check with her then, just wanted to see what you ladies had to say first, thanks x

Would be really intereted to see what the midwife says on this one?

I hate pads too and i had a c-section, pads make me feel really unclean. I found that the bleeding kinda died off and then made a bit of a return but going again now.

I thought that you had to use pads for the entire duration of lochia despite having a c-section as its to reduce any potential infection to the cervix/healing uterus and hence we would still be at risk. I guess if you change the tampon regularly and keep clean down there i can't see it being a problem?

Yeah they make me feel dirty aswell, always feel like I need a wash down there when I'm wearing them! I think the midwife is going to say the same thing (to wear pads for the whole duration of lochia) but ill ask and see!

My doctor advised me to wait 6 weeks. The concern is that inserting anything into the vagina can bring outside bacteria with it. This can bring it to the cervix, which can risk infection to the incision in your uterus. I hate hate HATE pads, but would hate more to have a Pyometra.

6 weeks, like baths and swimming. To avoid chances of infection. I assume this is the same for any type of birth, it isn't linked to the c section.

Not like baths, my midwife told me whenever so long as you are comfortable to get out of the bath with your wound

I was never told anything about baths :s I've literally just got out the bath aswell, woops!

Spoke to midwife this morning, she told me to wait until I have my 6 week check with doctor and see what he says. She also said I should have been havng baths yet but I was never told that so oh well..

That was meant to say SHOULDN'T have been having baths yet

Don't use them for the bleeding after the c-section, when the bleeding stops, and your period comes (minimum of 6 weeks post-op) you may use them again. Check with you doctor though he may have his own rules. Thats what I was told.

Yup no baths, swimming, sex, tampons, or douching for 6 weeks. It had to do to the fact that while we had c-sections not vaginal births we all, chances are, dialated at that means the cervix is open leading to a high risk of infection of the uterus.
